Minor Races in V 1.2

It's a good thing!

I do not know if anyone has brought this up, but I am happy to report that more minor races appear in the games than before. In onw gigantic map with all major characters, I must have run into or heard the existance of every minor race in the game! Before, there was always only one or two. I'm glag for this change.

Yeah Minor races are fun, it allows you to blow through them without full galactic warfare.

I wonder that if your ally's or oponents see that if you are conquering these races will it affect you standing with them?

Or do they just not pay attention to minor races?

Just asking..

I think the AI is too busy conqueroring the AI themselves to care what you are doing with them.  So much for "We come in peace."

Well, there is always the UP vote that comes up if a civ exploits a minor civ too much. I guess the AI doesn't actively defend the minors, but sometimes they have a chance to passivly do so through the resolution.

Heh, not so much. They can, and will, make alliances with minor races. I've had quite a few "incidents" where I went to sack a minor race that was inconveniencing me and ended up with at least one major race crammed down my throat. Nothing drops the bottom out of your stomach quite like seeing "The Arceans have honored their alliance with the Scottlingas and declared war on us. The Altarians have honored their alliance with the Scottlingas and declared war on us." when those are the two most powerful civs in the galaxy.

You see that loss on my Metaverse profile? I just thought "hey, I need another economic world. I'll take it from the Scottlingas." I was actually about to win that game, despite the difficulty level (since I had very cheaply stacked things in my favor in the initial configuration--not like I could normally beat that difficulty level!).

Yup, same thing just happened to me. Went after a nice, juicy I-League planet, and the Torians and Altarians both declared war on me to "honor their alliance." Thankfully, I'm far enough into the game now that I should be able to take them both out. So yes, the other races *do* notice if you are "cherry picking" the minors.

I have not had a Minor race start in my area since the game first came out. At one point they just never was in game. Now they seem to be back but never around me. I still trade with them when I can. But they are usually dead within a year.

If you havent noticed, as of a few weeks ago, the minor's are still bugged in that each minor race is tied to a major race's ship range(see my other posts), ie, the snathi acctually use the drath's range for how far thier own ships can travel. I have attempted a few times to give the minors a bit more oomph,but until this is fixed, not much can be done and they just turn into fodder for the player/other races.

what i would love to see, is allowing the minor's to colonize and have them a bit more active in using transport ships again, creating a more active galaxy over all. - it might also fix some of the spam of influence bases that they have a tendancy to make.
