Are you sure you want to decommission youe entire sensor network?

Are you really really sure?

Having positioned scouts so that I would be able to see everyone who hangs out in my space, I then decided to upgrade the existing design, which I did. Then I obsoleted the old design. I don't know why I hit Yes to the dialogue that followed, but I must have done because when I was finally finished with redesigning new ships, and got out to the main map, all I could see is what my non-scouts, starbases, and planets could see. Which isn't a lot.

I think there should be some kind of anti-stupidity measure so that you don't accidentally decommission a whole bunch of ships which are vital to your empire's operation

I quicksave before I start altering ships just in case something like that happens. But an easier way is to set Autosave to save every turn. I haven't done this, so I don't know how it'll effect load times and the such, but it can be a life saver.

And a second thing, often time I save upgrades as the original name as it is an easy way to upgrade all of that ship at once. Nifty feature. I don't know if theres another way to auto-upgrade all of a kind of ship.

Personally think it should be done via it's own page or something in the starport. I'd love a page where you could say, 'upgrade these into those'.

Right now you only get once chance to decomission them all, other than going into a particular ship. Doing things like this at the ship level doesn't seem right. (should be a manager)

Don't worry, Marvin, I'm not laughing *at* you.

Well, OK, I *am* laughing at you, but not because it's something I'd never do myself.

Anyway, I agree with the poster that suggested a manager interface for this type of thing would be better.

Well, I have no idea how I wound up hitting 'Yes' to the decommission prompt unless somehow the buttons were reversed. It's one which I routinely press 'No' on and wish there was a way to switch off the prompt entirely because of the potential hazard. I might then consider switching it back on if I needed to cut back on military expenditure, keeping just the most cost-effective ships.

Basically, if there are fifty-odd ships of the same design currently in service, it makes no sense for me to scuttle the lot and start building a slightly-upgraded version anew, unless I'm really stingy and don't want to pay for upgrading them all.

i cant really see any reason why you would want to scuttle entire designs across teh fleet .... bet you wont make that mistake again eh?

It would be nice if there was a screen that said "are you sure you want to do this". When you press "yes" another screen appears that says "are you REALLY REALLY sure you want to do this".
It might be an idea to have an option whereby you can have another screen that says "Are you REALLY REALLY REALLY....etc". You get the gist, I think

then your going to have people complain about having to press yes to often.
In many games there are threads making fun of how you have to hit yes after you select "exit". "Are you sure you want to exit?"
For things that need prompting (obsoleeting or exiting) 1 promt is more then enough or else your busy just hitting buttons so that you can do what you awnt.

Eliminating the prompt is a better solution than repeating it, I think. It's not that it doesn't serve a purpose, but I would much rather check or uncheck an option box to toggle between Behaviour 1 (never decommission ships when obsoleting) and Behaviour 2 (always decommission) because it's unlikely I will want to use both in a given shipyard session.

To help free up ships I suggest you Get Eyes Of the Universe, you can get it reletivly early before the wars really heat up. That way you save room on your ships IE no sensors.

And you don't have 5-10 small defensless ships scattered around your empire that get get destroyed easy by Maurading enemies.

It doesn't matter if they get wiped out, I can easily replace them. Plus, if they do see something coming, they're fast enough to evade

It could just give a second prompt whenever you take an action that affects 12 or more of something at once, rather than always.

You could also just get Eyes of the Universe and be able to see every enemy ship on the map without having to be near them (though admittedly, you wouldn't be able to see details).
