I will copy and paste the reply i gave to a guy who had a Geforce 440 go with the same problem, since i didnt get any feedback from him, i cant tell you if it worked on his card.


I had a Toshia laptop sporting a 420 go up untill last year, try the 60.XX (66.93 worked for my card) range of nvidia video drivers for your laptop, theres an nvidia driver archive around somewhere, even though they say the gefore 4 go series isnt supported they do infact work. Nivida doesnt officially support the geforce 4 go series, it relies on the manufacturers to release drivers but none of them do for the go series. Also try drivers for the FX go series cards if that doesnt work.

Incidently all the latest versions of the nvidia drivers (as linked above) refuse to install with a geforce 4XX go series card, atleast the the 80.XX series drivers i tried.

On a side note: Im not entirely sure if GC2 required pixel shader 1.1 support, it probably doesnt but if it does, your card wont be able to run the game no matter what drivers your using. Anyway I can guarantee the 66.93 drivers to work and at the same time they should improve framerate across the board, on other games. I think they were released in 2005, so they should work with GC2.

Forgot to mention that when you do come to installing that new driver, uninstall the old one first or the new one is guaranteed not to work properly.

You realise that Toshiba is either wrong, or you can't play the game. Older than 2004= unplayable. Just doesn't support the directX. You'll need to find some unofficial drivers or buy a new video card. I can't help here, I don't do Nvidia drivers, only ATI.

Thanks for the help. None of the 70 or 80 series would work (woudl not even let me run set up as it found hardware not compatible). The 60s did not fir much better. On the Toshiba site there were satellite cards but they di not do any better. After many tries and a few wierd screen results later I am back where I started. I guess the issue is I do not have a direct X 9.0c compatible card. I have run direct X games in the recent past (thought some were 8 and even 9). and the tutorial completely works.

The main issue I guess now is I am out the $$ as I talked to Best Buy and they say due to copyright laws only the manufacturer can refund the $$ and sotre credit is not allowed. Kinda sucks as this was a BDay present.

Anyone know how I can reach help from Stardock direct (either for more viedo help or to see about the possibility of getting some credit or something)?

I dont understand that 66.93 driver should work, since it worked on my old 420 go and you have a same series card it should work for all geforce 4 go's. Is the driver installed and working or is it just not running GC2, because if it is the latter then its game over.

Make sure youve uninstalled the old driver, check in the display properties>settings>advanced>Geforce 460 go>Adapter>properties>Driver, then find out what driver version is installed, if it still says the old one then 66.93 didnt install correctly. It took me ages the first time to get rid of my old 2002 driver before i was able to get 66.93 working the first time i tried it. You can also try direclty overwriting the driver by installing the new driver files over the old one, you can see where the old drivers files are located under driver details, i remember this being a problem i had to deal with. Normally installing drivers are a snap except in this instance.
