Capital cities= Trade bonus?

I read somewhere that linking a trade route to a race's capital will make for a more profitable route than a planet of similar population and distance. Does this hold true for both ends? Meaning, if YOUR world is your capital, will the route be more profitable for YOU (or would your opponent just get a profitablity boost?)

IMO it is related to planet's revenue. The more, the higher the starting value of the route. Valid also for target planet.

I think population also applies, however I am not entirely sure.
I can say that heavily populated planets do seem to generate more revenue though.
