Graphics card driver help

I have a Dell Latitude C840 laptop with a GeForce4 440 Go video card.
When I installed GCiv2 and the 1.11 BonusPack, I was informed (when I ran it for the first time) that I needed a video driver that supported DirectX v9.0c (which I do have loaded). The message also suggested that I upgrade my driver to one that was published in 2005. The only problem is the most recent driver from Dell is dated 2002. I tried getting drivers from the nVidia site, tried a bunch of different files and version, but every one said it couldn't find suitable hardware.

Any ideas on where to look or how to tweak the config file?

They have a driver for the Go 7800GTX that might work. Have you tried that one?
I tried to read the release notes for it, but it seems the file is bad so I can't check compatibility with your particular chip.

The standard Geforce drivers do not support the Go chip, though.

I had a Toshia laptop sporting a 420 go up untill last year, try the 60.XX (66.93 worked for my card) range of nvidia video drivers for your laptop, theres an nvidia driver archive around somewhere, even though they say the gefore 4 go series isnt supported they do infact work. Nivida doesnt officially support the geforce 4 go series, it relies on the manufacturers to release drivers but none of them do for the geforce 4 go series. Also try drivers or FX go series cards if that doesnt work.

Incidently all the latest versions of the nvidia drivers (as linked above) refuse to install with a geforce

* go series card, atleast the the 80.** series drivers i tried.

On a side note: Im not entirely sure if GC2 required pixel shader 1.1 support, it probably doesnt but if it does, your card wont be able to run the game no matter what drivers your using. Anyway I can guarantee the 66.93 drivers to work and at the same time they should improve framerate across the board, on other games.

Forgot to mention that when you do come to installing that new driver, uninstall the old one first or the new one is guaranteed not to work properly.
