Updates? Does this make Sense?

I have made changes to the STARS.TXT files and major changes to some of the race ship designs. However, when a new update is AUTOMATICALLY installed, it seems that all these files are overwritten!!! Why in Sanity's name are files like STARS.TXT and ship designs overwritten when the program is upgraded.

I can see the executable and items requiring changes to be replaced but not files that don't need to be touched!!!

The big draw for Gal Civ II is it ability to be modded. Why the heck did the updates cause me to lose hours of work!?!?

Dragonhero: there is a mod-folder in your mygames\galciv2-directory, I don't know how far it works wih the latest patch, but after 1.2 everything can be placed there and no update will overwrite your data.
Btw. there is no automatic update, you still have to confirm you want to install it/trigger the installation.

Best advice, before updating, copy the whole folder and renamed Old copy before update. then go with the update and you will not loose anything, just copy and paste.

It is easily moddable. Most games won't let you change anything. It's ridiculously easy to mod, but every update reverts any files that have been changed, back to the official update. What do you expect it to do?

I haven't tried modding galciv2 yet, but isn't it supposed to be possible to make a modfolder and load that somehow? Or is that what is coming in the announced later modupdate?

Jubala, that is exactly what the game does at the moment, the modfolder is already supported, but it's a little bit buggy, and these bugs are going to be fixed in 1.2.
