neutrality learning centers not upgrading properly

neutrality learning center is researchable after invention matrix but before discovery sphere. If researched first then the invention centers will not upgrade to learning centers, they will upgrade to discovery sphere when it is researched (despite neutrality center being available) and that is it.

Neutrality learning centers should probably only be researched after discovery sphere, alternatively, they should upgrade both discovery spheres and invention matrix, and have discovery sphere tech give an additional bonus to neutral civs

u are using the newest patch right? I think that was supposed to be fixed from 1.11, but I havent tested it yet

NLC's upgrade from Research academies, not invention matrices, which makes sense, since you research them after research academies. There has been great discussion on this already, and the devs have spoken. I happen to agree with them, that having the NLC's where they are offsets the strengths of the other alignments.

But neutral learning centers are superior to the invention matrices iirc. Who cares which is researched first, I want my centers.

you cant have them autoupgrade for 2 reasons, it is alignment related, so you dont hvae to research xeno ethics ever it could be anytime, so you might have discovery spheres and still not have the NLC's and 2 because of the ethics reason its not in the science tech line, its in the diplomacy/influence tech line, and you could rush xeno ethics and probably get it before the research academies, so it could show up anywhere in the game so they cant have it upgrade, since it wont always upgrade from the same thing

thats also entirely incorrect. YOU CAN have it autoupdate, i did that AND its been included in a patch at my request... The problem is to make it autoupdate CORRECTLY regardless of the order at which its researched. An item can only autoupdate to one item. You can't have a "update C to D if only D is available, to E if only E is avilable, to E if both are avilable, and upgrade D to E if E is available" script. You can only have a "Upgrade order: A, B, C, D, E" etc...

So they already patched it so that it upgrades to neutrality learning centers IF you research it in a VERY SPECIFIC ORDER. But it does not work for any other order of researching it...

I set mine with an Upgrade Target of Discovery Sphere and I have no problems with it being upgraded from any of the research buildings.

It may help also, that I always research up to at least Discovery Sphere shortly after getting NLC's, because I need DS to get the Omega Research.

it should always automatically upgrade to NLC when it is avilable as it is the best research building in the game. It does not. it needs to be fixed. Even assuming you DID manage to get it to work with scripts, it should still be done in the official scripts and work for official games.

The game does not determine the highest grade building to upgrade to, it uses the Upgrade Target tag.

And the Upgrade Target essentially defines an upgrade path.

So, if NLC's Upgrade Target is set to Discovery Sphere, anything at ot below DS will upgrade to NLC.

Since it is set to Research Acadamy, anything at or below RA gets upgraded but anything higher than RA is left out of the loop and uses its own Upgrade Target to determine the upgrade path.

At least, that is how I have observed it to work.

I always research at least up to DS shortly after I get the NLC, so that may make a difference too. But since I am going for strong research I want the Omega Research Center asap too, which comes with researching the DS. NLC's are not the end of the research path, they are only the path to the strongest research soonest. But there is still more to improve research capability dramatically all the way up to Discovery Sphere, even though the actual researched buildings won't be used.

I know! thats the whole problem, the mechanic doesn't deal well with multiple branches of tech in parallel. As such it does not upgrade properly under all circumstances, it works in your circumstance, it doesn't work in all of them. This is a bug, it needs fixing, what is it that you fail to understand?

It is not a bug. Learn what a bug is if you want to call something that. It works as designed. Just because you don't like how it works does not make it a bug.
It works predictably and consistantly, it does not crash the system or interfere with game play. You just have to work the way the program operates.

That is what you fail to understand.

The NLC is the only building in the game that does not automatically upgrade properly once it is discovered. This is not a 'feature' and is not the inteded function therefore it is a bug regardless of why it is hard to fix or why the coding acts like this.

It is not a game breaking bug but it does mean that the player has to spend quite a bit of time moving through planet lists and fixing it, so it is annoying.

If the developers can't spare the time to change the code to fix it then they are still a good company and this is still a good game, but it remains an annoying unsquashed bug.
