Why PC-Cillin blocked it? or.. Why GCII website wanted it?

Neither have I.

I had hit the submit button on a post I was replying to, and PCCillin halted all activity and a message popped up saying that GalCiv2.com was requesting my credit card number, and asking if I wanted to block it or create an exception.

I blocked it, of course.

But, I would like to know why it happened in the first place.

No response from the GalCiv team, as yet. And I would be interested in their response, whether this may be a bug of some sort in their site, whether their site is possibly infected with something...

You know what I mean?

I think Stardock is a very good company, but trust only goes so far.

Their site tried to hack into my computer, from the looks of it from my end.

I'm with Inept, PC-Cillin's "phishing protection" is questionable at best.

I'd try switching to a different anti-virus/spyware/etc. program, and seeing what PC-Cillin missed. I still like avg (http://free.grisoft.com), and Spybot search and destroy (yeah, odd name, http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/).

I'm assuming PC-Cillin keeps some sort of log somewhere that would help tracking down who is really after your card info (generally not stardock, they've probably already got it unless you bought GC2 retail, or are posting on a friends account). Go to http://esupport.trendmicro.com/support/supportcentral/supportcentral.do?id=m1 and get some help from there.

If you could post the URL of the page that PCCillin warned you about, it might help.

uhm, what the heck is PC-Cillin? its obviously some kind of protection program like an antivirus program, but I've never heard of this program.

I know that Stardock has an auto updater that some people call spyware, but I doubt that it looks for CC numbers. You can disable it as well from the SDC menu I think.

i emailed and [email protected] told me there wasnt supposed to be a problem..

i tried again twice today and got the same message...

i called my bank right away and turns out, 2 identical transactions came in for the two times i tried to buy the product... this means i was billed... if so, then i must have also been billed the other times i tried... i will go to the bank tommorow to get an account statement to check...

is this a bug... or was i a victim of some sort of racket...?

please help...

I've also had that PC-Cillin warning come up with this website. But it has for lots of other wierd ones too (such as when I'm reading my email). In fact, it even stopped me posting on here for some time. I don't think there's anything to it, just PC-Cillin being panicky. PC-Cillin sucks.

It could have been a random coincidence. I have privacy protection software that looks for things like the last four digits of my credit card numbers. Every once in a while a random number on the internet happens to match these four digits and it sets off alarms.

For example, the forum ID for this message string is (ht tp://forums.galciv2.com/index.aspx?forumid=274&aid=116841) If my PIN happened to be 6841, my privacy software would give me an alarm as I posted this message.
