Hello,
I only wanted to adress the bug of GC2 on non-English Windowssystems again.
For those who don't know what I'm talking about, GC2 isn't working correctly on systems not having the English numbersettings (1,000.00), it simply ignores all textures, so planets are black dots, ships mostly invisible and so on.
AFAIK the problem is found (anything apart from 1,000.00 in the windowssettings destroys the textures) and the solution is also found: Compress the .x-files.
Yes I know people are working at this problem (e.g. Cari) and they also know how to go around this problem. I also know it's a matter of manpower to reexport all .x-files.
So why do I annoy developers with problems they already know?
Simple reason, today I got angry mails of users I ran a script for, the output of the script is a long list with numbers, three decimal places behind the comma and as much as needed before the comma.
The people got lists like:
1.000
2.000
3.500
because these persons are Germans, how should they know this is 1 | 2 | 3 1/2?
Now I always have to change my Windowssettings when I want to play GC2 and change it again if I use a programm generating an output with numbers.
Shure, you can say "how stupid are these people not seeng that this are numbers smaller than 10?"
Yes, they could have seen it, but that's only the result of an really annoying bug in GC2.
Yes I also know now someone writes "but this is a bug in DirectX-SDK-December for Windows 2000", maybe, but compressed textures are working and ALL other programms I used for years don't have this problem.
I like GC2, I like the effort the devs are spending to this game and I like the community, but this bug is really pisses me off.
I don't say: Hey fix this until tomorrow or I'll flame you every day. I simply want that this annoying bug isn't forgotten.
Torsten
