I have to say that initially I too suspected GC2 had multiplayer. This was mostly because friends spoke about it SO much, I figured they had to be gaming it multiplayer, and secondly because all great TBS games have multiplayer, right?
I think it is a disservice to the gaming world to not at some point support cooperative play with your products - and I really get ticked off at the complete lack of support for the cooperative gamer that exists in today's market. If I had a choice of a billion good single player games, or one really good coop game, I'd pick the coop game every time. I live 1500 miles away from all my friends these days, and there's really nothing but crap out there for us to play. We spend many hours remembering how it used to be different, how gaming companies used to care, and how society in general is headed towards self-destruction :chuckle:
Heck, I hate ot think of what our marines oversees are experiencing as a result of the lack of coop games for the PC. Their only outlet currently is MMOs, which quite frankly suck when there is even the remotest chance you might be interrupted while in game. MMOs are such a massive timesink as well. If and your buddies have to keep your levels in check so you can even do anything together (unless it's CoH/CoV). I know too many people in the service, and most all of them agree that a lack of coop PC games really burns their asses.
Bleh, the lack of support over cooperative gaming just shows me that America as a whole needs a culture change. I grew up around the various consoles where the fun was all about gaming with friends. Unfortunately those consoles today have MANY limitations when it comes to cooperative gaming at a distance. You would have thought PCs might have picked up some of the slack, but sadly they did not.
GC2 is a great game, but it still boggles my mind how they left out multiplayer. The lack of people interested in a multiplayer expansion confuses me too. I guess it's the same kind of confusion that results from the lack of public support for things like a successful space program, and end to global warming, or controlling the massive influx of illegal immigrants. Oh what we are in for in the future hehe. And to think, gaming with friends might have curtailed some of it by opening up some of our minds and granting us an outlet for fun interaction amongst friends.
Well that's my jaded, ticked off rant for this week. Down with developers who can't see beyond their own goals, to the world that exists beyond your keyboard and mouse.
