AI Cheating?

Now I don't subscribe to theory that the AI cheats but I cannot understand how this could happen otherwise. I started a new game and before I had completed setting up what my home planet would initially build and what I would research first, the box popped up announcing that the Thalans had built a Manufacturing Capital. Now explain that to me.

Quick Buy.

It's a dumb move, but it's theoretically possible. Do Thalans start off with the required tech?

Ok I found it. It seems it is possible. I thought it was further down the tree but it is in Xeno Ind Theory and the Thalans start out with that. I guess you just need that money in that case. I agree, it seems to be a dumb move but at least it is not a case of cheating or a bug.

The only "cheating" that bothers me is that the AI seems to know exactly where all the planets and anomalies are located.

they dont know that ... some of the civs start with stellar cartography so they know where all the planets are, and some start without it but like you they know hwere all the stars are ... they also dont know where all anomalies are, several times i collected anomalies that were close to ai starting posiion yet he didnt come for it in 40 tunrs ? its all about luck

For anomolies, everyone, including you, "knows" where they are.

If you have your flag ship selected, and press the auto-survey button (A on the keyboard), your flagship will automatically start heading towards the nearest anomoly. That anomly could be right next to the ship, or completely across the map in unexplored territory. It doesn't really matter where, as long as its the closest.

True.

But it doesn't know where the good planets are. Everyone knows where the planets themselves are, and it's extremely easy to bee-line to them.
