I've bought GalCiv2 LE yesterday. Installed it. Couldn't find the registration number where it said it would be. Eventually found it because it was on the back of the manual, not on the back of the case. Entered the number. Checked the mentioned website for updates. Found one:
GalCiv2_110_BonusPack_042506.exe
Installed it (before starting the game for the first time), started it and saw a popup asking me to register the game with Stardock. So I disabled my firewall for a few minutes, created a new email alias especially for this procedure, entered the email address and the number and - yes - received an error stating the number was incorrect.
Allright, I thought, let's check it again. I made a mistake indeed. I only entered the first line of the reg.number. Great! Let's enter the correct number and play the game. Uh uh. Number is incorrect. No it's not. Yes it is! No it's not! etc etc.
In fact, the game was unplayable. I had to reinstall the whole thing without the update to be able to play.
Oh yes, somebody, somewhere forgot to mention that the reg.number for the LE is NOT a good reg.number! This I found out a couple of minutes ago on this site right here. So I found and went to the page asking me to register and post the LE number so I would get a normal reg.number. I registered, posted the number, got the right number. Next, I had to register for stardock to recieve updates, so I registered. Then I had to register my copy of GalCiv2 (hadn't I done that yet??). Did that, done it all.
Now I ask, why all this nonsense? If it is this against a copyright protection on the CD, I think I'd choose the latter.
So what now?
I downloaded the following stuff:
GalCiv2_110_BonusPack_042506.exe
sdcentral_setup.exe
GalCiv2_10X_BonusPack_030806.exe
What can I use? (Why) do I have to install sdcentral to receive updates?
I bought this game because someone mentioned it on the CivIV website saying this was such a great game, with great support etc etc. Have I been an idiot? Or is this a fluke? I always seem to run into flukes someway or the other....
