Oops? Good/Evil problem

Do I need to start over?

So I did the research where you get to pick your good/neutral/evil allignment. I wanted to come consult the forums to see what people had to say. So at the selection screen I hit ESC. Saved, exited. When I went back into the game, I can't see anyway to get my option to pick back. Any ideas? Or did I just make a screwup and need to start over?

Don't think you can get it back. But no worries, often the alignment events are more interesting and beneficial anyway.

U kidding me? Evil pwns. Free invasion tactics, uber weps, free starbase upgrades.... those stuff alone boost ur econ so you can spend your money on more importiant things, like buying gas for your car.

More like Neutral. You have to waste no time on Terraforming, and while not many more people like you than if you're evil, they won't defect. You also make insane money from trading and sucking money from other neutral nations. Best research in the galaxy anyone?

I am always Neutral. I just can't resist that NLC.

By the time I have to actually build ships, I have the Doom Ray and usually one of the other weapons branches fully researched.

I'm pretty sure once you research the Good & Evil tech, you can change it at any time (although not without paying for it). I don't remember off the top of my head how it is done, although I want to say it is in the civilization manager? It seems like it was in the same area where you can change your government type.

Indeed, same area. And different ethics for different strats. I like neutral for trading/econ/research, but if I wanted militaristic, I'd go evil or good (Get each of the good defenses, stick them on your capital ships, and watch the enemies wail in despair...).

Same thing happened to me. i think my problem was saving the game and quiting the same turn the decision was asked. when i reloaded i was stuck without being able to pick a selection. A good idea wouild to have the buttons to pick an alignment available on the civ manger screen that will allow a player to pick alignment anytime after the tech if they want to defer the choice to later in the game.

It's nice to see 3-4 posts in a row saying good/evil/neutral is best.. must be balanced then

The one alignment that "owns" is the one that suits you best.

i go with good myself usualy but they are all about equil in advantages. i could (and have) just as easy choose neutral or evil though. but since good can research nano rippers, add that to the awsome defence tech you get playing good then you can for the most part hold your own against the evil weapons tecs.

*shrug* it really IS all up to you there are no disadvantages to taking any of the 3 except not being 'liked' as evil for what ever that matters

It would all depend on your playing style really. They all should be pretty well balanced (I can't say for sure, because I'm only now just playing an evil Terran Dominion game).

Nano Rippers is not a "Good" tech. It is in the normal stuff. Everyone can get it.

No, I disagree! You should be able to choose at any time. One time the tech I stole was Xeno Ethics. I had to immediately choose my alignment. It was not something I wanted to do.

... like trying to survive the gang-up of all the good civs on you (with neutral civs helping them all the time). In my last two games evil civs were about the first to go down, withhout my help. If they don't manage to get a really good econ, they're doomed.

IMO there are just too many good AIs in 1.1 game, and that unbalances it. Would be better if there would be more neutrals.

Neutral rocks.
I usually rush for alignment pick, so I can get moral boost, skip terroforming techs get trading bonus and uber research building. Also, alighment tech enables those crystal trade goods that boost morale even more.


Anyway, I think neutral is best to go from economy reasons.
Anyone disagrees?

I really need to try good... I tend to go for neutral as I can't resist the Neutral Learning Centres, it's also very nice suddenly finding that your planets have more tiles (providing you haven't already researched soil enhancement, etc)... Oh and I love the high morale... Woot for higher taxes
I played evil though and that it was nice being able to invade planets any way with no thought towards the cost... The extra weapons were probably very nice... I can't remember them though.... Oh well... When I get home I'll... Actually no I won't, I'll finish my current game first... Those gigantic galaxies really take a while to get around

M opinion: Evil suits me best, for the following reasons:

- I can always pick the evil choice in ethical events. Always choosing evil and then going "good" seems like cheating to me, even if it is allowed by the game

- assuming you research the ethics line first (which is no problem in my experience) you get in decreasing order of importance
1. a 100% economy bonus from Mind Control Center
2. the evil weapons, which are at least as powerful as the good defenses, possibly better
3. a 50% military production bonus from Artificial Slave Center
4. free starbase upgrades
5. free invasion tactics

- I have often heard the gooddie civs gang up on you. That is true to some extend, but with your booming economy from (1) you can afford to support a very large fleet, one which you create in no time thanks to (3). Even the crusading Altarians and Torians don't attack you if you are stronger militarily than they are

- Evil civs have all they need to build up a really strong starbase support for their planets. They can build constructors faster than good or neutral with the help of (3), and they don't have to pay for any modules. With many good starbases, it is no problem to match the neutral advantage of the NLC's

I admit that good civs probably maintain better relations with other civs all around, and neutrals might have a slight research edge over you, but NOONE can match the economic and military power of an evil civ

What good is a research edge when the evils are just gobbling up your planets anyway?

Getting and building the orbiatal terraformer is fairly trivial anyway, or if you plan it right you can't even build those extra squares on your main planets for a while anyway.

Neutral is good for trade and diplo manipulation due to large numbers of trade routes with one or two important civs. Good is 'good' for nothing, but fun to play anyway

I disagree. That is what the tech is for - learning about it would force you into a specific alignment. To deter the choice, you must not research the tech or prevent stealing the tech. Therefore, I think an option to whether you want the tech when it is stolen is needed than detering it as IMO it doesn't really make sense.

Well as far as the good v evil goes for the tech stuff it would be cool if you could block tech from being researched. It could still be traded but only to same alignments or something. Lets face it if you build a really strong ship wouldn't you want to thwart your enemy from building a weapon that could get thru your shields, or stop their shields building route so your super weapon has no problems.

C'mon you know alot of you would go for that straight off the bat. Blocking ship speeds, invasion abilities etc..
