Does population affect production?

Does a planet population size increase do anything other than make your planet garrison larger.

Basically does a class 12 planet packed full of factories but only 5 billion people produce the same # of shields as the same planet with 12 billion?

I have a suspicion that population indeed affects income, so I wont ask about that...

But, kind of on the subject, does Economy bonuses affect just money, or all resources, like Economy starbase upgrades?

Population does not directly affect production, only the number of factories/etc and spend rate and any bonuses.

Population does affect tax income, being the primary factor. So more people = more money = more spending possible, indirectly leading to more potential production.

Racial/technology econ bonuses give a boost to your income. They do not affect your production, since each production type has its own racial bonus.

-Population does not effect production or research.

-Population provides you with tax money because that number represents tax payers.

-Population affects population growth on that planet, because it is based on a percentage.

-Population relates inversely to approval because people don't like to be overly crowded.

-Population provides you with soldier to fight with (defending or a pool to load your transports with)

-Economy Starbases do not directly give you money, however boosted production and research are
discounted and you can upgrade them to increase the profits from nearby trade routes.

Are you sure about that? Interesting. I would be curious as to why....

If I have two planets where neither one of them have any manufacturing or research facilities and there's 5 billion people on one of them, and 0.5 billion on the other... why do I see a much larger number for the 5 billion pop planet in the 'Military' and 'Research' production boxes at the top? Why is that my starting homeworld with 5 billion people on it without a Manufacturing plant can produce Starships so much faster than my newly colonized planet can which has only 0.5 billion on it? Same for the number of Research flasks in the box at the top without either world having a Research facility on them. As a newb I'm sure I'm just missing something here but obviously I don't know what. Lol.

Your capital on the homeowrld provides more production than the intial conolny thing

Your homeworld gets extra production and research bonuses from your civ capitol, try comparing planets that aren't your homeworld.

That's how the game is designed.

Why is that my starting homeworld with 5 billion people on it without a Manufacturing plant can produce Starships so much faster than my newly colonized planet can which has only 0.5 billion on it?


Because your starting colony gets a special building for its colony building. This initial colony building also gives your homeworld a max population of 10 Billion rather than 5 for regular colonies. It also gives you a big influence bonus as well as other things.

Ok guys. Thanks! I didn't even know about the special capitol building for the starting homeworld. doh! I knew I must have been missing something.

Btw, I did at notice that the starting world gets a 10/mt food production instead of the 5/mt, which I found to be interesting. But yep, didn't know about the other bonus.

I believe, in addition to Metaphase's list, population also affects Influence.
