Mind Control Center

Does this building actually work at all?

I've had several opposing colonies on the point of rebellion, at Influence ratios of 5x-9x for more then 20 turns now, and they still refuse to come to my side.

This achievement is supposed to make sure unhappy colonies almost immediately defect.

From what I've heard, it gives an economy boost. The description is wrong.

I thought it was to make a surrendering AI more likely to go to you. I don't think it has anything to do with influence or economy.

The description IS WRONG. It only adds 100% economic bonus unfortunately

So build it on a world thats producing high BC's. At least until/if they fix it

I wonder if it is one of the many in game jokes, a "political" building whose name is actually an outright lie. I guess we will find out the spin control centre is a lie too soon

You gotta be kidding me. Or not realise what it actually does.
It gives you a 100% economy ability bonus. That means that it affects all your planets. Which means that it will nearly double your taxes. That is unless they have changed it in one of the betas.
I usually wait a very long time to even research Xeno Ethics, feels kinda like cheating to research it when all the AI:s completly ignore it.

I am pretty sure I saw an AI build the temple of righteousness once recently.

And the 100% is still in as far as 1.1 beta 4

Sound thinking is more like it.

I get Xeno Ethics as the third tech I research, the first two being Research Centers and Research Acadamies.
It is third because I then get the option of the Neutrality Learning Center when I choose Neutral alignment, and the NLC follows the Research Acadamies.

Quite correct. This one building doesn't do what is said in the description, but the economy bonus makes it by far the best building in the game. I mean, it almost has the effect of 2(!) fully developed economic resources, which finances the extra production of the also great Artificial Slave Center (Yes, evil rules) with some to spare.

It would be nice if they corrected the building description in that regard, but anyone complaining about the Mind Control Center must have missed the extent of the bonus granted, or they would be asking to have it's effects turned down some.

No, I didn't mean that. I'm just saying that I don't feel the need to make it easier then it already is for me to crush the AI.

Actually, I have done just that. It is seriously overpowered and needs to either be toned down or actually do what the description says it does. At the moment, it's more powerful than having 3 Stock Markets on every single planet or being the best government.

Something else I need to edit in my XML files.... I think a 30% bonus would be more appropriate.

errr... no. The NLC is the best research facility in the game, it's 2 better than discovery sphere.

I don't think he meant that the NLC is between research acadamy and the invention matrix, but rather that they follow the research acadamies in his strategy, which I do when I'm neutral also. ^ ^ They are more powerful than discovery spheres but according to the discription, only by 2 TP which is also as always, just potential. Getting them that early on though is pretty incredible.
