Star Control sequel possibility

The original company behind star control 1 and 2, ToysForbob is considering making a true sequel as the third one made wasn't by them. Right now they need proof from the fans that they want  a sequel to present to their publisher.

I already sent them an email, since Star Control2 is one of my favorite games of all time. I figure there must be alot of sci fi fans on this board

Yeah, I'm thinking about loading up the original sc2 for 3d0 tonight and have some fun there . I've yet to actually beat it, but I got far enough to be destoryed by the kohr ah  (black ur quan I think).

You better believe your afterburners that I want a sequal!!!

Star Control 2, I believe represented the pinnacle of gaming perfection in the roleplay/action/arcade genre. A massive story, a huge galaxy, and some of the most memorable aliens I had ever dealt with, is what made it truelly fun to play. If they had more games like this, i'd be set for life for perpetual starship duty.

I've played it, and beat it three times. Even found a downloadable copy on the net that works on windows XP, and played it again.

As far as I remember from past info, the only complaints the majority of people had was the traveling from one place to the next. Thpppt to some of you. I enjoyed dodging the inky black circles which were trying to commit to an encounter, so I found traveling just as fun as searching the planets and moons for minerals and looking for all those nice nifty items that furthered the story.

We must have another Star Control!!! I demand it!!! =^^= <---- kittah demands it too.

If they made a sequel the only suggestion I'd have is instead if every 8th or 10th star system actually having some story or special encounter involved, if at least every 4th star system had at least a little bit fo special content or some clues/ hooks to where you could find some. Also more of a 'quest journal' so if you haven't played for a bit you remember where the heck you are and what you need to be doing.

Also some some comprehensive ways to tell what systems you've already explored, their status, that sort of thing. Maybe when you go to the starmap you can click a filter button that has special colors for each star system to denote: "Unexplored", "Visited", "Pending Missions", and "Completed" (at least for now).

Oh and keep the Thraddash in somehow. Their themesong is freaking badass, I still listen to it now and then. I believe I listened to it multiple times while playing GalCiv II Really gets me into the mood for total eradication of all before me.

Well life is good, I just loaded up my 3d0 and it still works. So I should be starting another game soon.  In my email to them I mention about how their are only 2 other games I can think of that remind me of Sc2 ( Escape velicoty nova and Space Rangers). Did I miss any other games that have the the same feeling as Star Control 2?


There only 2 things I would love to see, ability to customize other ships in your fleet outside of your flagship. And somehow, a random universe generator, even  if the planets are the same but are in different locations would be good enough for me.

SC2 was a wonderful game. I've got the 3dO imported version and played it fairly recently. While the game isn't as deep as many of today's games are, the blend was superbly well done. A TRUE sequal could only be a good thing.

Heheh, I guess it is time for me to dust off my old copy of SC2 that I actually have lying around with my other modern games. (Yes, I hang on to the classics) Of course, I don't know how I'm going to fit all four 1.44MB floppy discs into my CD drive since I opted to not install the corresponding drive. Oh and what's this? An original manual? An original map? And uggggh, the original copy protection? Maybe I'll just visit the site instead because if I recall, SC2 was not very user friendly, expecially when it comes to Windows.

While I am at it, anybody remember it's sister game, Starflight and Starflight 2? The games were too similar to be a coincidence.

Best news ever!

SC2 managed to maintain a good balance between storytelling, freeform exploration and content - see other, similar games like Starflight for what happens when you don't do this. Starflight had more stars than SC2, and *less* interesting stuff to find, and *less* clues that made *less* sense, huge planetscapes you had to explore *manually*, and no Starbase commander who can remind you what you're supposed to be doing. I played in on Genesis when I was a teenager, and the manual included a walkthrough for the whole game!

ACK! You guys are killing me!

After reading this thread, I decided to go and download the game. Of course, now I am playing it! I am SUPPOSED to be playing galciv2, not some 15 year old game with dated graphics, dated sound, and and OUTSTANDING storyline. (Notice I did not use the term bad graphics or bad sound.) What started as a simple turn back of the clock is becoming very time consuming. I'll get back to galciv2, but I want to finish SC2 also.

I found something weird today, I was playing it, and I sorta let the rotzotpik die, but anyway. I had no crew left in my flag ship everyone was on the lander, and it came close to death I think I had 1 person left the milasecond I lifted off had zero people. When it went back up I had a full ship of people.

Download The Ur-Quan Masters (the open source version based off the 3do code) and for the love of God, get the enhanced remixes for they rock (Now and Forever being a personal favourite of mine). The game is amazing and as someone who has only discovered it through this open source project, I am praying for a sequel.
