HOMM V (with no starforce)

I checked the HOMM V forum and the big buzz is that it was decided they would NOT use starforce a couple of days ago...about the time they released the demo. I will have to go back and see if I can provide the link to the forum discussion.

I think HOMM V will be a good title. Everything I have heard about the demo is good and generally demo reviews are pretty poor for most games (GalCIV II of course has had good reviews all around so I can't count that one).

I really think we are about to see some good titles this years (as mentioned) I may be wrong but I have really not seen many stratagy games I have been really interested in or happy with in the last few years. This year is the first where I actually look forward to some new titles.

I agree about the comment made about real time twitch jockies getting their hands in the turn based market and screwing it up any further. Keep up the support for the little guys and the bigger ones that actually try to meet our segment of the gaming industry. (StarDock, Matrix, Strategy First, etc.)

hey you are playing it now - it is just called galciv2

moo2 was the best space strat game for 11 years. quite an achievemnet. I do miss some things from it tho:
leaders
capturing ships
guarded special planets
fighting my own tactical combat

to name a few.
I guess we may see some of these in expansions.

I also enjoyed MoO3, but it really was a let down. I wasn't a fan of the way the task force system was set up. Also, you deluged by WAY too much info in that game. While it was a pain at first, it got easier to play after a few games.

That being said, I would love to see a MoO4 come out some time and I would also love for there to be another Star Control game (not planned, but possible) another of my old school favorite games. Link

i kinda liked MOO 3, atleast what i could see it was supposed to be anyhow. it had so much potential.

i wish that some big money company would make a game like this and put in some polish. you know, make you feel like an emperor instead of a construction forman. GS 2 has done a great job with the ships and a fair job with the planet development (not being able to set individual planet tax rates is driving me nuts and makes the triple food bonusus basicaly usless) things like that. but it doesnt really make me feel like an emperor, just a build boss, build X, then build Y, then Z and finaly send in the swarm rinse, repeat. the whole game is basicaly over after the planet rush.

i want

1) sim-empire in space. i want lots and lots of choices of what and where to build. and they all must mean something specific to my empire. no improvments just for the sake of padding the list and no idea of what they really do. (embassys anyone? )

2) total imersion as an emperor of the . i want advisors and hangers on and court wenches hangin on my every word. and falling all over themselves to kiss my ...... , as well as actualy telling me (yes i want voice advisors like black&whites) things i need to really know. not that i have had an 'amazing 0.5 billion people born in the last year' even though its not true.

3) i want elections to mean something. i want to be able to be voted out of office and have to spend the next year shuttling through space to have to campaign on my empires planets in hopes of getting relected. and i really mean shuttle. as in i get a space ship and have to fly through space taking how ever many turns it takes to reach the planet. making me have to decide ............ do i go to skybow thats 20 turns away but has 15 billion people with a 90% moral that could mostly be turned to vote for me or do i go to mars and 3 other class 4 planets in the same amount of time that all told has 25 billion but a 40 moral and i may not get as good an election return.

i also want my emperor to gain levels in political skill by doing things like having 100 moral on each planet for 1 year, or being able to extort gold out of a enemy in a peace treaty, or having 300+ empire wide research ability. that can all make me stronger and better able to win elections or regain my seat if ive lost an election. all those 'mile stones' that your GNN bugs you with should be gaining my emperor avitar more levels.

what i really want is for all those star base resources to be done away with as starbases and basicaly made into categorys for my emperor. the more i stress research the better my emperor (and by extention my empire) becomes at it, same with war, moral, cash, and you can just scrap the whole influance stuff and replace it with political skill.

4) i want my ships and my enemys ships to not be cannon fodder once i reach large hulls and beyond, i want to have to name and personely launch each and every large hulled ship. i also want a GNN reports that detail the loss of an yor enemys large hulled ship YFP ironshoe in a stunning action off of nestor by the amazing Human Admiral James T Kirk in command of the dreadnought USS milktoast , that turned the tide of the 3 galactic war to end gummy bear monopoly that the torans have managed to steal away from the humans. and resulted in the yor paying 200 credits to emperor Jeff and swearing to attack those pita korx just because they have no mouths and thus dont understand the vital galaxtic repercussions of a lack of gummy bears. (ok a little much but you get the picture)


gimmy all that , ohhh and by the Lord God himself i want hard borders that other empires ships cant cross without my express permission written in blood, and all done in amazing detail, like a real TV announcer talking in the back ground telling me about my empires business as im in my imperial thrown room looking at the galactic map ploting my moves. or Bill Shatner himself playing my fleet Admiral coming to ask my to be at the launch party for my newest battleship. or imploring me to declare war on the klingo........ erm drengi before they get their nanoripper cruisers fully deployed.

now gimmy all that and ill die a happy man.
