Worst Retail Game Ever!

Congrats Stardock,

GalCiv II is the most bugged game I've seen the last 10 years.
This is not a ready for retail product, not even close.
It crashes to the desktop in many places.
Reloading saved games is a nightmare, it has more problems than you can count.

I have played it from 1.0x to Beta 3.14 and I've only experienced ONE CTD playing an average of 4-5 hrs a day for over a month. This game (for me) has been one of the LEAST bugged I have ever had the pleasure to purchase and help Beta test.

GROW UP!

If you truly feel you have a legitimate complaint, you need to be SPECIFIC. You need to post the debug.err file. Otherwise, you're simply trolling and you're going to get flamed for it.

See, Stardock tests things. Probably more thoroughly than most companies.

If they didn't, they wouldn't have survived this long.

And more people would be complaining if the problems you had were the problems they had.

So my question is this:
Are you sure it isn't just your computer?

Way to go Keith. Just flame the product without going into any specifics.
Like the posters below you, I have no issues with it, but am willing to help you with yours if you can be a little more specific.
First off, we need to know your computer hardware and software and what version (patched/unpatched/beta) of the game you are using.
And posting your debug.err file will help us pin the problems down.

I think it would be a real good idea for stardock to make a sticky thread
"If you think this game is no good, post here"

Then someone could occasionally pop in and try and help. That way the board does not get cluttered with pounds of duplicate topiced threads. If someone still makes a new thread, it could just get closed with a referral to the correct spot.

Try updating your drivers. That helps a lot of people. i am sure if you updated your drivers like advised and still had problems you would have stated so in your post. The problem might not be the game. GL getting it running.

You know... I really can't help but just laugh and laugh and laugh at these types of posts. First off there are stickies that say things like *If you are having problems post here* so no need to create a new thread. On top of the dozens of other threads saying things like *hey I crashed*. I can only conclude that the OP is: a) lazy or a troll.

For the record I have had exactly ONE ctd since release and that was the first beta of v1.1 an issue that was resolved in the very next release. That's it. And I'm sure I'm not alone. I play the game for hours (too many in fact) at a time and aside from the usual slow down associated with huge maps have had zero issues with the game. Buggiest in 10 years... that's a laugh. Guess you don't remember Win95.

Are people having issues? Well sure but I think it's been shown that the vast majority of them are user error as in not maintaining your computer. I'm sorry. I'm really glad that Stardock takes these sorts of posts with the proverbial grain of salt. So unless you've got an up to date system running 1.0X go back under your rock or where ever trolls live these days. We don't want nor need you around.

Update your video drivers, download the latest patch (not a beta) and run an AV program. The problem here is either your computer or the simian tardman seated in front of it, but it's not the software.

It's funny how people come on here complaining about the game not working without even bothering to mention exactly what is happening or trying to understand why it's happening. If it keeps crashing, I would say UPDATE YOUR DRIVERS. It says to when you install the game. If you are running old drivers, it probably will crash a lot.

Now don't be too hard on the guy - the game does crasch occasionally, although it's on my ol' faithful computer from 2002. I did have to upgrade my video drivers to the semi-latest version (the latest doesn't work) for my now rather dated, but usable, and above all, silent RADEON 8500.

Still, I agree that a post like that isn't very constructive, but neither is "It works for me, you suck!".
In a game of this complexity, you're bound to find the occasional crash and bug, and if it's video-intensive, it's even worse. I had to download the beta, as I had a crasch or two. One issue in particular was the shipyard, where the "Save design" window showed up "behind" the main screen, so there are bugs and wrinkles, but I'm confident thar Stardock will iron them out, eventually.

As many people have pointed out, there are numerous technical soultions to your problems with this game. Each and every computer, even if it has the exact same hardware build, will be unique and different, therefore any game will never run at 100% on every single computer. There will always be bugs, the best any developer can hope for is to iron out as many bugs as possible.

Now, GalCivs2 is one of the greatest games I have played, and has re-started my 'just-one-more-turn' syndrome. Not only that, but Stardock have the most enlightened philosophy regarding patches I have ever seen. Name me one other company that beta-tests patches with the general gaming community? I can give you at least one company, who forced a developer to cut the developement time of a game in order to get it out at christmas. This resulted in a broken wreck of a game, that had so much potential but consequently failed to satisfy. About half of the game consists of bugs. And the publishers/developers response? Hit and run. They released two patches (one of which was a text update) and that was it. No feedback, no addressing of concerns. Nothing. Now, I'm not mentioning specifics, as I'm not trying to make this into a flame/rant about this publisher, merely to provide an example of how, what I consider to be the most bugged game I've ever seen, has been treated and this in contrast to the brilliant work Stardock is doing.

Citizen Keith, this may be the most bugged game you have ever played, but that means you either don't play many games, or that you have been extremely lucky up until now. I admit my version has its share of bugs, but that is purely down to the computer I'm running it on (lets just say its slightly eccentric). But even with the bugs highlighted by various other members, I am confident that Stardock will address these and they will soon be a thing of the past. I congratulate Stardock on restoring my confidence in the gaming industry (not an easy thing to do after the betrayal in the game mentioned earlier).

Havarel and other helpful people! I really appreciate your efforts to help , but in cases like this it is just a waste of time. They are not seeking help, they just want to start another disquisting flame war. When people seek advices they describe details of they problem, tell about stats of their system, etc. Does "This is the worst game ever!" sounds like a plea for help? I can clearly see the ugly face of a troll. The best way to deal with trolls is to ignore them. Also it is permitted to mention to them that they all have small dicks.

Keith,

There were some framerate throttling problems that caused weird crashes on very high-end machines out of the box. If you have a crazy souped-up rig, make sure you've downloaded the latest version (dont get the 1.1 version yet, it's still in beta).

If you've already done this, please post your debug.err file here.

Also, to the others, we do appreciate you sticking up for us but know that some foreign users are running into some major problems that we couldn't have forseen, so (if hes using a european build) his angst may be justified (though I do hope he contacted support before making the above post)

Meh in the beta there are some crashes but hey its a beta heh.

After working in QA for 7 years the crashes dont really bother me i just save a lot but there are crashes and simply because you are a fanboy and didnt encounter any doesnt mean they are not there. But yeah post is kinda trolling still no reason to say the beta is perfect cuz its far from perfect then again its better then alot of betas i had to test but still has its problems.

Is the OP planning on returning any time soon? So we can have a look at what's causing the crashes, and help to fix them?

Not that he deserves it, but if someone has a legitmate problem, troll or not, it should be fixed for them.

Either that or he updated his drivers, got 1.0x, find it runs perfectly, and is ashamed to show his face around here
