How did you find out about Galactic Civilizations II?

So how did you hear about Galactic Civilizations II?  We've created a fairly detailed web poll (left side of this page).  We are very interested in finding out how people learned about this game. What's the best way to get the word out there and so forth.

The poll is located on the home page of galciv2.com on the left side.

For some reason, I see no way to vote, only the totals. I'd vote but it won't let me, in both Netscape and IE.

Gamerankings.com! I saw it was listed as a top-ranked game and I like sci-fi games, so I checked it out.

Weird. After much refreashing of the page after I posted, I could then vote. Anyways, it was the posts made in the comp.sys.ibm.pc.games.stratagy where Brad copied his journal notes pre-release, same as he did for Galciv 1 (which is what made me buy that too).

lol, do you guys think you put enough options?

Anyways, I heard about it on Gamespot, but I only really looked into it after looking a thread about it on the Egosoft forums (maker of X3: Reunion)

I heard about it on the old GC1 site before GC2 was more than a fancy pic of concept art. You guys hadn't even started using DirectSkin until after I knew about it. I was reluctant to try the beta, however.

*feels dumb* I don't see anything that looks remotely like a poll on the left side of this page at all.

But anyway, in December of 2005 I was feeling bored, so I went looking through the website Home of the Underdogs for freeware games to download and/or ideas for games to buy.

I came across the entry for GalCiv1, thought it looked cool, and followed HOTU's link to download the demo from the GC1 site. After playing the demo for a while I decided I had to buy it, and was happy to note that the GC1/Altarian Prophecy deluxe pack thingy was still available for purchase new. After buying it and playing the full version of GC1 for a while I decided, yeah, it did indeed rock.

Then, while returning to the official GC1 site to look around, I noticed that the sequel was being released soon. So I surfed over here and started reading through all the journals, screenshots, beta reports, game examples, etc. After seeing that you Stardock folks were willing to talk frankly about creating games, and seemed to have such passion for your work (and the fact that the game looked even cooler than GC1) I made my first pre-order ever and haven't regretted it.

I just saw it in walmart and I love space games but none of them are good, well this one is good, DUH

I read a preview somewhere, think it might been gamespot though it might of been gamespy.... Don't remember.

On a side note, I can't seem to vote, I can only see the totals.

Gamespot review.

When they say it was similar to Stars! it got my attention.
(GalCiv2 is actually closer to Alpha Centauri).

I wish I could remember how/when/where I first heard about gaciv 2 - but I can't. Still - I'd played the first one and after reading up on what was being offered in the 2nd one I snapped a copy up

Penny Arcade whore here too! I read about the whole Stardock-Starforce thing, and then I got to reading game reviews and I got really worked up. To me the whole issue seemed like Stardock was just a little kid who just ignored the big bully. But then the bully wasn't getting his way so he hit the little the kid. Poor kid. So I gave that poor kid some candy and bought the game. And the good karma i got from that payed off. I passed a test that I didn't study for because I was playing GalCiv2. a 52% is good enough for me! Anywyas, here's the life changing article for those who didn't see it.

I voted already: I learned about it from Stardock. I've been playing GC1 since the early days - my metaverse sign-on date was in May of 2003 - and have yet to look back. I think back then I learned about GC1 from a CGW review, but that was a long time ago, and I don't remember. Once word about the development of GC2 popped up, I followed it regularly and made sure to pre-order my copy. Other than the "unproductive time" factor that contributes to my less-than-optimal membership in non-gamer society, I absolutely love it.

Played GalCiv, then saw on Penny-Arcade that GalCiv II was out, broke the speed of light to get here.

GalCiv reminds me of Ascendancy more than anything, except GalCiv has an actual AI. Loved the 3D movement of Ascendancy, the tech tree, the ship design, the replayability. If it only had a smart AI...

I was looking for TES: Oblivion at Wal-Mart and saw this game. I like space games and civ games so I figured this would be a good game. So far I was right, aside from a few annoying bugs which are to be expected in any game. One of the worst bits is the typos in the game. Words spelled incorrectly aren't really a serious problem, but that annoys me to the ends of the earth.

First learned about Stardock on the old "Atari" MoO3 forums, where I was following that nightmare's arduous journey into gaming infamy. After a week or so of playing that, I decided to give GC a try, and have never looked back.

Heard of game in Computer Gaming World back in January or early December. It was a full page ad that caught my eye.

BTW... I cant seem to be able to vote either... I dont see any where to do so

Am I the only one who first heard about it in the Civilization IV forums at Aployton? I was eagerly awaiting GCII's release for months thanks to Apolyton.

Looks like the poll is invisible, at least it is to me. I was and still am a player on GalCiv 1. Saw early posts about GalCiv 2 .

I had gotten GalCiv 1 after reading a review on it (went on a search and destroy mission to get it after that)... then heard about GalCiv 2 when it was announced.

I can't vote I loved Galc Civ 1 and Political Machine so Gal Civ 2 was a no-brainer.
