Getting weapon techs from other civs

One of my favorite strategies is to concentrate on technology to out research everyone else ad then hoard all the techs I can to keep a substantial advantage over my enemies but I find it increasingly difficult to get weapons techs from the other civs once I become the dominant military force. They all refuse saying that giving such and such tech to the already powerful ____ wouldn't be prudent, or something similar. I've even tried trading all my advanced techs like Massive hulls and the like for a simple Lasers V, but they still refuse saying that they like the offer, but their advisors won't allow them to trade the weapon techs to me. I can get any other techs I want, and usually for free. Does anyone have suggestions of ways of getting weapon techs without researching them.

If you're the most powerful civ, no. It isn't a price thing, the AI just says "no" to the trade.

If you're in a position where nobody will trade military techs to you, just research military techs yourself and buy the others from the other races. Or, you could invade their planets and hope to steal the tech, if you really think you need it.

Get an alliance then grab all their weapon techs, with high diplomacy they'll give'em away for dirt cheap too. It can be tough to get another civ to be close enough to be in an alliance, but I'm pretty sure its the only way the AI will trade weapons techs with a strong civ. Though they are willing to sell most of their military to just about anyone with the cash.

there is another way to get weapon techs from other civs without invadeing our buying form an anlliance with them if there not your enemy then they'll trade all there techs with you then after you get all there tech conquer them unless your trying to be a good race because word can spread and none of the other races will trade with you unless they have an equal military. I hope that this helps any.

I have a similar strategy to yours, get a lot of technology and hoard it, then trade to other civs for techs that your can use to kill them.

I first (well, before the hoarding) i research the diplomancy branch all the way to Total Majesty, this not only helps with the future trading, it gives me the Spin Control Centre. The SCC amps the fleet in orbit's power by 5, so even the smallest flight can intimadate potential enemies into not attacking. Then when i need to trade for 'dangerous' techs, just move the fleet off the SCC and you'll appear weak.

Tech-trading like this is awesome the AI (on 'bright') can make some ridiculous bargains
