I’ve spend a lot of time optimizing the Defiant, so I wanted to work on something small. Here is the third installment in the GalTrek series, the Shuttle.
The Shuttle

At a little under 3000 triangles, this model is certainly usable by everyone. I’ve optimized the original mesh, added an area shadow lighting pass, and gave the hull some glow from the nacelles. I collapsed the defuse material and lighting into a base texture, and a self-illuminated texture, capable of being imported in GalCiv2. I didn’t bother with normal mapping for such a small model.
Bellow you can see the model in the game engine. Note that I have imported it as a large ship hull, so it is unusually large in the game for a “shuttlecraft”, which will eventually probably fit into the “tiny” ship class.
Any ship suggestions, or advice for which ship should be in which class, let me know. So far I have:
Cargo: | ? |
Tiny: | Shuttle (<10m) |
Small: | ? |
Medium: |
Magellan (?m) [link to my thread],
NX (225m),
Defiant (120m) [link to my thread]
|
Large: |
Intrepid (344m),
Excelsior (467m),
Prometheus (414m),
|
Huge: |
Galaxy (643m),
Sovereign (685m),
|
The Defiant should probably go into small if we are considering only size, but it would be wrong to give the Defiant such a small number of HP.
If you are interested in using this model pack, please post a reply on this thread. I want to see how many folks actually care : )
Cheers.
