Now for starters I really like Galactic Civilizations, so I hope youguys will find my suggestion as cool as I do, bu back to topic I have always found (since Galciv 1) the wonders and achievements though important slightly boring in that they mostly gave staistical benefits which though important were far from cool, in fact many civ game's have lacked in cool factor when it came to wonders and similiar, also all wonders are ALWAYS social projects or buildings etc. so How can you "coolify" galactic achievements and trade goods? weel I have had a few thoughts on the point which I will extoll in my highly pompous manner:
1. Diversify effects: not al benefits have to be statistical, what if a trade good allowed you to build an advanced weapon type? (nano ripper perhaps?) or allowed for an improved version of certain social projects, what if gravity accelerators instead of giving just a boost to speed stat also gave access to a new type of engine. in Civ (and alpha centuri) there have often been cool and diverse benefits ( great library comes to mind) so what surely diversity in effects would be a good thing no?
2. Do they always have to be social projects? Surely you could have techs, starbases or starbase modules or even ships could all act as galactic achievements/trade goods. which leads on to two such suggestions, one of which appeared somewhere on the forums though I can't remember where
3. THE GENESIS MACHINE!!! the genesis machine would simply transform an uninhabitable planet into a habitable on for a one time bonus, maybe if this is two hard to balance it could instead be used to transform a bad planet (class 3-5) into a godly planet (20-25?) obviously it would be succeptible to capture on the way there...
4. The return of... THE TERROR STAR!!! in Galciv 1 terror stars were great fun to play with (though very unbalanced) so instead of them being freely buildable it should be a galactic achievement in it's own right! it could either be a spaceship wonder or a starbase wonder, either way it should be very dangerous if not reintroduce the whole destroy star/planet thing maybe it should instead permanently lower planet quality, also to counter it's power the whole 1 move per turn should be kept and maybe anyone should know it's location at any time obviously it should be balanced approriately...
anywho that's my two cent I invite anyone to think of cool Galactic achievement ideas. there should be more galactic achievements not less!
