I have noticed that when I play a given race more then once, I end up having all the designs I created previously. Now, given the powerful appeal of the ship designer, it only makes sense that users have access to previous designs they may have spent hours tweaking.
But I tend to find myself getting more annoyed then not. I dont hold to any sort of consistent tech research pattern, and I dont really bother tweaking ship appearance until frigate hulls anyway. I have a great many tiny and small hulls that have a single engine and the weapon of the week slapped on.
What annoys me though, is that I do like to reuse ship names, since the name usually refers to the intended use of the ships. Guardian ships are usually fighters used for planet defense. Probes are tiny fighters used to start early hostilities. Maulers are my frigate hulls used at about midgame to go on the offensive. Its a minor annoyance, but I really dont like having to click the 'are you sure you want to reuse this name' option.
I would like to have the means to clear my old ship designs before a game, so I dont end up having a cluttered list of ship designs I wont use for the game I am currently in. I can always hit the obsolete button, but I have managed to obsolete a few designs that I was still using.
And I can only speak for myself, but tagging a ship currently in use as obsolete, then trying to recreate the design and save it tends to cause a crash for me.
Any suggestions on how to clear all ship designs that currently have no active ships based on that design in use?
