It's. A. Beta. That means it's still in freaking development. As it's publicly available for download that makes you the beta tester; they are expecting you to break the program in beta so they can find the bugs in order to fix them. This is traditionally what a public beta is supposed to be.

If you do not want to operate as a beta tester then the answer is simple; Don't. Download. The. Public. Beta.

NOW. TO refute your assertions about bugginess. First off, the game did have beta testers before its release and it even had a private gamma before. At which point people said it was "ready" but Stardock held onto it a week more and refined/polished it further. The released version is very stable. What you assert is a bug is actually a feature or designed that way. The AI is crippled to move slower, do dumb things and give total newbies a chance at playing.
The AI does colonize, and even designs ships to make their colonizers faster when you play on higher difficulty levels.
"Intelligent" is the setting where the AI is on an even course with the Human player, no restrictions.

I totally disagree with you. The game is not doomed and its not buggy.

It sounds like you have a serious problem. No, not the insult you were thinking, but have you tried re-installing the game or latest patch? The game is playable all the time. Do you have the latest video drivers ?? before you go any further check to see that you do. That is so critical, you will have problems if they're a year old.

UPDATES are thoroughly tested. Don't complain about the beta *Insults Deleted*. People who know what BETA means and agrees to test, send in reports and debug files pave the way to that point. If you don't want to encounter bug/crash don't download the BETA version. It is just that, a test version. You will be fine with the latest released version. You will have to wait for it (the beta version ) to be official and then download it.

The OP is an asshat but he does have a point with the AI acting strangely or not doing anything on occasion. I played through the campaign on normal and on the last mission the Dreadlords did nothing at all, absolutely nothing, they had one planet, which they had about 2 buildings on and didn't build a single ship or anything else the entire game, needless to say that mission was a cakewalk and a big dissapointment compared to the extremely fun and challenging missions preceeding it - making the game ending a bit of an anti climax.

That said it's the only major bug I've come across and the custom games are always extremely fun to play, especially on the harder difficulty levels.

But without trying the AI at other levels on the same settings he hasn't managed to identify that it is an AI problem at all.

Another thing. My bloody ship designs just dissappeared. Great. ALL OF THEM.

Did you play as a different race? or a different ship style? If so, then its a different set of ship parts so of course your parts won't appear.

As for the rest, I agree with what everyone else said. Beta. Beginner Level.

I couldn't play the non beta version due to the damned trade bug crash. I was trying to avoid the bedamned beta. What was I supposed to do about that? Save every round and keep all my planets garrisoned to shoot down any and all rogue game crashing freighters? I had more than one game that literally couldn't go forward b/c the AI decided to start trading with me before I had a military in place that could've possibly stopped them. I couldn't embargo the race unless they were already trading with me. SO that game was basically shot b/c of a bug, that a small patch explicitly for it could've fixed. Now I have to contend with the beta....They should've release bug/advancement patches or something.

As for the AI at beginner level. I've played on the exact same setting before in the BETA!!!! They were never that slow. I had a military and all sorts of crazy **** and they each had TWO planets. I wasn't even able to light a candle in normal. I don't know anything about the AI. It might not be a bug. But an AI that moves that slow. A preschooler randomly clicking could beat them, and that difficulty is like, two or three up from the bottom.
