random AI group will at times take control of your ships, and even put them in a fleet - have a saved game showing the event even, then when they try to move the newly aquired ships, the game will crash.
almost looks like a rally point issue, the ships will teleport to the ai group instead of heading to rally point, has only happened on gigantic map.
note that flight paths even show up as your ships try to go back to their assigned rally point. to fix in game, i had to click on enemies fleet that had my ships in it, then disband those ships (yes, lets you do it because they are .. yours) then decommision them.
