breaking npc alliances

the 2 most powerful civiliazations keep forming alliances, and it makes the almost untouchable. is there a way to break up an alliance between two npc's???

i often start fights between other civilizations in order to keep them from getting incredibly powerful, but when the top two join up, it's really tough.

nothing??? the same game.....the drath's influence completely enveloped the altarian space. now the altarians have NO home space and the still will not attack the drath.

so does no one know, or haws no one else run into this problem. i consider this to be a bit of a bug since the only reason a civilization will ally with you is if you are as strong as them. and once an alliance is formed, a npc will never break it.

To the best of my knowledge you can't bribe npc leaders to break their alliances, as the option to have them attack their allies is not available.

While I do understand your point (not the sucking part of course), alliances in RL tend to be long term and quite solid (can't imagine China bribing England to drop from Nato anytime soon), so it doesn't really bother me you can't do that either in game.

One thing you may do is to keep a close eye at the relationships between civs and if you see the leading civ getting very cozy with a minor one, you still have a chance to avert that.

If you have the Production to spare, you could make some med. power fighters (make sure you can counter them) and 'gift' them to the Altarians through the diplo screen. If you give them enough (around 10-20), the Drath will probably become paranoid and start attacking them.

Of course, this also carries the risk that they might attack YOU if your not on good terms with them.

P.S. You might get nicer replies if you leave the word SUCK out of your post.

you guys need to lighten up. how would i know if you suck??? i just wanted an idea. any idea. i actually won that game, but only for a really wierd reason. the altarians gave me a fleet of ships, but it was more like half of their star bases. they gave me something like 10 of them.

i also tried supplying arms to another race to fight them, but they just got wiped out. it just sucks when the top 2 civs like to stick together.

i just wished the espionage screen had an option to try and break alliances. like making an attack look like another race did it.
