Why cant I get a missile boat?

I've played a number of times now and if I go the Beam Weapon path to Battle Axe I dont have any problems. I can get the Battle Axe, Destroyer, Battleship etc by researching the necc technologies.

Not so with the missile based ships though. . I cant get the missile boat, corvette etc. . . Much later, in game, once I've captured some other civs' planets, the templates sometimes show up.

Whats up with this?

sorry about that!

As I was saying before i hit the Bloody Tabkey

just build your own, in the shipyard. that way you can customise it for your current map, and not be stuck with something designed early in the alfa build.

Agreed. The core ships are really weak compared to what you can build. You can focus them how you like - Defenders with no engines, Interceptors with all guns and engines, Sensor arrays with all erm sensors.... basically, you design classes of ships. Even if you can't use the builder, you can still slap a few guns/engines onto a basic hull, maybe add a couple of wings and you're away.

Its much better to have a number of designs of your own. Have defensive units which would only sit in orbit around a planet and then have offensive units for interception and offense

Building my own ships is a good idea and Ill do that, but that still doesn't tell me why the missile boats dont show up in my build templates once I learn the techs required.

Maybe you don't have a high enough miniturization?

You should be able to find all the required techs in the XML files somewhere. I dunno where, I'm not much of a modder.
