Main Menu Crash

I was running the game fairly successfully for a couple of days, then I downloaded the latest ATI drivers, and shortly after that the game started crashing as soon as I hit the main menu. (right after the opening cinematics) My last 4 lines in my debug.err file show the following:

*DEBUG ERROR: ***Unable to find required tech ImpossibleTech for PirateShip. ***
*DEBUG ERROR: ***Unable to find required tech ImpossibleTech for Starbase. ***
Debug Message: Overran end of MemBuffer.
ASSERT ERROR in file .\Source\memman.cpp at line 1143.

I have uninstalled & reloaded the game, but to no avail. Help!
