Know I agree that the PS3 is not going to do much for the computer world, but Consoles and Computer and so much alike. They are have the same components the main difference is that you can upgrade everything in a computer, and well you reall can't do it for the console, well I mean i am sure it is pooible but would not be worth the time a effort. Now PS3 may make an impact on Linux itself but not sure if it would be that might. Linux seems to be doing just fine and has evolved into a pretty decent OS from what it was 5 years ago, it still is not as going as Microsoft and I still do use Microsoft alot mainly for C++ Development, for Visual Studio, and Gaming, WoW, GalCiv 2, Elder Scrolls 4, etc..., even tho Microsoft is now starting to do some stuff with the programming for windows like requirering you to include code that you might not even use but if you don't you will get a performce hit on your app. Now two of the biggest things that I think is hold Linux back are 1. Software developers are not building the applications to support linux. Now being a Developer I really don't blame software developers not trying to support linux becuase it is quite hard to program for linux and make it so that it will work on each distro, but this is the second reason I think Linux is being hold back, there is not standard of libraries and such. I can develop on, lets stay Suse 10 which i am doing right now, but that would be the only distro I could virify it works on becuase RedHet may have a different version on a certian library which make my code fail on it. what I would have to do it either find a way of coding it so it works for both or compile for Suse then go into RedHat change to code accordingly, then recompile for that distro, just makes ot a pain.
Sorry about my rant on Linux, just come out but that is my opinion.
