A Way to Keep Ship Designed as Hulls

I was wodering, is there a way to save the ship we designed as a hull. Or if not, how bout a way to do it. I have some nicely designed hulls that i want to use to replace the core designs. I want to also use those hulls for the other races. There any way to do that with the ship design feature in the game without having to use programs like 3D Studio Max?

Easiest way without all that sticky programming: During a game, build a ship without any tech based components. In other words just build a frame with a hull and "extras" parts. Save it with a name like "Interceptor template" or what ever.

Whenever you start a new game, it should be in your build list from day one, just upgrade it to add the parts and or other things that you want to do to it. As new hull types become available, construct your templates and save them for later.

The only problem with that is if you play across two different races with two different ship styles.

Yep, that's what I usually do. But I wanted to redesign some of the other races' ships designed. Especially the Torian. I was thinking of modding them out and replacing them with a less ugly race with some ships I created that has some inspiration from the Klingons. I'll probably post some pictures and show ya what I mean later when i get home.

If you choose the ship style at the start of a new game to be the race style you have created your hull designs in and not the regular race designs, will that give any race your new ship designs?

I.e. Create your designs as (for example) human style, then start a game as Torian but choose the human style. Would your saved templates appear?
