Situation:
I downloaded the Game Client (using Stardock Central, of couse) after purchasing the game from Stardock Friday afternoon. I did so from my PC at work (after hours) with the intention of buring the files to CDR and then installing at home.
I used the "Download and Archive" righ-click function to download the main game client with the Galactic Civilizations II tree expanded to show the optional modules. SD Central began downloading the Game Client and automatically que'ed up the optional modules.
Later, I returned to the office, located the files on my work PC, noted their locations, and burned them all to 2 CDRs (over 900 Mb). I then placed the files on my home PC in a like manner and was able to successfully "Restore from Archive" the Game Client. However, I could never get SD Central to detect and install the optional modules.
I sought out help on SD Central's IRC channels and primarily spoke to "GreenReaper" (and also "CerebroJD") about the situation. He recommended several things, but in the end we decided that there was too much "hand-shaking" going on to be able to properly (and completely) convince SD Central on my home PC that it had downloaded those files.
BUG: SD Central automatically downloaded the optional modules along with the Game Client, but did not do so in the same manner as it when downloaded the Game Client.
Proposed Solution: Alter SD Central so that when it automatically downloads the optional modules along with the Game Client, it does so in the same manner as when it downloaded the Game Client.
Work-around: I'm going to uninstall GalCiv2 at home. Then I'm going to return to my office at work and try to get that SD Central to archive the optional modules that it downloaded. If that works, I will then return home and restore the Game Client and optional modules from archive. If that does not work, then I will redownload the optional modules using the "Download and Archive" command, and will then restore from archive at home.
I'm looking forward to playing Galactic Civilizations II here soon!
Update:Ok. This has not gone well... The install of SD Central at work did not seem to "know" that it had downloaded those 3 optional modules already, so I couldn't archive them as they were. I then explicitly told SD Central to "Download and Archive" each of the 3 modules and left the office to run some errands once the first module (the Tutorials) was at about 50% complete. I returned about an hour and a half later to discover that the
entire download que had stalled on an error during the first download (there was a error code 16 given). I have uninstalled SD Central at work. I'm going to uninstall SD Central and GalCiv2 later tonight and then reinstall SD Central. I'll try to redownload the optional modules tomorrow while I'm gone.
