First off, I want to thank Stardock for a great piece of work, and offer my understanding in how much work it is to get a piece of software from 95% done to 99% done (no one ever seems to make it to 100%).
Playing latest update, 1.0X i think it is, on win xp, 1 gig ram, X700 pro Radeon card, Intel P4 3 gigahertz.
Playing custom race, medium galaxy, genius level AI.
Cheats turned off.
Settings pretty much default for interface.
1. My worst bug is savefile corruption. Usually happens when a game gets big and complicated. Sometimes crashes while saving, and that version is now corrupted. Even a full machine restart doesn't help. Often the corruption is built into savefile quietly, game keeps working, but the save files are being corrupted. I keep about 5 rotating backups going at a time, so when it hits I can always go back thru and find one good one. This includes the autosave every turn. Last night I thought I had lost a good game I'd been playing for 20+ hours, but found old backup that was not corrupted. I have modded the gal2type file a bit, but it does this with the vanilla version anyway.
2. I too, experience the fleet selection button, and find the data you get when fleets are piled up in a square to be weak.
3. Frequently, when I pay for ship and it says: 0 weeks to go, I don't get the ship next week. This is really annoying when you are desperate to keep the AI off a colony world in your backyard and you went broke paying for it.
4. (non-bug UI) I find the location of the turn button right next to the minimap to be a problem, since I use the minimap a lot with the weak scrolling behavior of the main screen, it is all too ez to accidentally click on the turn button.
5. (non-bug UI) When coming out of a fleet battle, I click done often to skip a movie, and then find my mouse right on top of the turn button, sometimes a double click causes a turn to go by.
6. (non-bug UI) This one is really annoying to me: I tend to move quickly, and tend to edge ships around looking for the enemy but not wanting to get too close and get nailed. After I move a ship to its full MA, the pov switches to another random ship, but if I accidentally click to move one more step, that new, random ship is now ordered to travel across the galaxy, usually in the wrong direction. This happens about once every 10-20 times I order a ship, in otherwords, constantly. Would like to see the "switch to next ship" feature with a disable option.
7. (non-bug UI) One fantastic addition you could easily put into the UI would be a DIFFERENT color destination circle for the ship you have currently selected. Sometimes I'm sending 10 fleets to an area in emergency mode and tons of destination circles show up on the screen, but I have no way of really telling (other than trying to read grid cooridinates) which one is the ship I've got in my hands now! Just make a green circle or something instead of the blue one for the currently selected ship!
8. (non-bug UI) The planetary combat screen doesn't say if there was some form of bombardment involved, whether you were giving or taking it.
9. There are lots of AI issues, but stardock has already pledged to be working on those, so no point relisting them here.
Thanks for the GREAT game!
