We're here to help!

IF you've installed the game and cannot get it to even get into a game, then this is the place.

IF you're able to play the game and run into a problem later, find the other thread to post reports. This thread is only for people who have installed the game and simply can't get it to work for some reason.

If you run into same basic problem such as:

a) Game doesn't load

Game causes your computer to catch fire

c) Game formats the hard drives of your neighbor's computer even though it's not connected to the net.

d) Some other basic problem that is keeping the game from running for you.

Then post here.

WE NEED:

1) Your debug.err info (which is located in your GalCiv II directory)

2) Any other info you think is pertinent (such as what you were doing)

ALSO:

MOST COMMON REASONS:

a) You're running your desktop in 16-bit color

or

You have ancient video drivers.

Make sure you've updated to the latest version of the game! Click on the downloads links above.

A few of you haven't had replies so here's some general troubleshooting tips:

-Post your entire debug.err file which can be opened with notepad from your GalCiv2 folder.
-***Like the original post states, update your video drivers.***
-If you have an ATI or nVIDIA card you can try 3rd party drivers from this Link.
-Update your audio drivers.
-If you have a dual core processor check this Link.
-Make sure your game is running the same resolution as your desktop.
-Try turning off anti-aliasing.
-Try running in window mode.
-Run the latest patch 1.0X (the 1.1 beta is not supported).
-Run Windows in English.
-Make sure you have enough virtual memory allocated.

If all else fails, try posting a thread of your own so it doesn't get lost. Quite a few people are willing to help you out that way. Also, you can email Stardock or go to their IRC channel: irc.stardock.com Hope this post helps some of you.

Full screen mode = black screen.

Runs FIne in windows mode.. although extreamly slow!

Any black screen fixes out there? I have updated drivers good card great memory.

I updated on Version v1.1 BETA-2A but both problems still exist.

When I start GC2 this is what I see for minutes in the Taks Manager:

i.e. no change in CPU usage, it stays at 0% and memory usage slowly increases from 7.268k to 7.620K in minutes.

I have the 1.1 beta but with 1.0X there were exactly the same problems. I simply hoped that it would get fixed with the beta.

I'm not sure what Stardock prefers. I would avoid reposting the same debug.err info though. My meaning was that it is easier for people to help you troubleshoot your problem if you have your own thread than if you are just one debug.err file listed with dozens of others. I'm not sure how the quickstart function works, as I just launch the game normally. Also, you can run the game just fine in fullscreen mode, not using a quickstart .exe? My advice to you (and anyone having problems) is to not run a beta version of the game if you are having problems. Stick to an official release.

DEagent, looks like the game isn't using your nVIDIA card, try disabling the ProSavage card.

Both problems did already exist in the official 1.0X version. They are not related to the beta.

The QICKSTAT option is described in the command line option area of the wiki. It starts directly a game with the last options. It's similar to a program start and Ctrl+N. I can live without it but it guess Stardock is interested in this kind of bugs.

The other problem with the very long start time is more of a headache.

I've planned to deinstall the complete game when the official version of 1.1 is out and reinstatt all from scratch.

But I would be happy when anyone has another idea I can try to fix it.

Hi there.

I'm experiencing problems starting a game. The game menu comes up and I am able to choose what settings I want but when I then try and start a game it then crashes.

I have a Limited Edition version bought in the U.K. and I also have two serial no's, having seen your link on European purchases and am confused as th which one I should enter.

Update your video drivers. GC2 uses a new feature of Direct X which is not supported by old drivers. This is mentioned in the readme, this forum and on many other places as well. And I bet you got a message "please update your video drivers" when you first started your game as well

Okay, I have these CtDs all the time and no Sound at all when watching the Intro. Anytime I click the Mouse or do anything else I end up in CtD. Fortunately you have invented the Debug-Report, so I am posting it here. Maybe any ideas how to solve the problem?

I cant get the game to load after I have set the parameters.

i should note, I have an ati radeon 9600xt, and running it on 1600x1200 on 32 bit color.
