Starting Colony Ship Speed

Hey all...

Just started playing the game last week, and I'll start by saying it's a great game (my wife is getting pissed at me for spending too much time on the PC!)

Anyway, I have a question. I started a new game with a huge galaxy on "cakewalk" to get a feel for the whole game. I decided to go with the Drath Legion. Right off the bat, I decided to design my own versions of the default ships, because I wanted them to have my own look to them. In desigining my own Colony Ship, there was no way to make it run with a speed greater than 1 and have two Colony modules on it (not enough space). I've used the same Cargo Hull the default Colony ship uses as its basis. However, the default Drath Colony Ship has a speed of 2 pcs, and it has 2 colony modules on it... I can't see any engines on it or anything at all (besides... there's not enough room on the Cargo hull, anyway). Anybody have any idea what's up? Is this a stock racial bonus that the Drath get that I missed or something?

I never use more than one colony module ever. Just select one module, enough life support to reach your destination, and as many engines as you can fit on there. I even take the speed enhancing racial feature at the beginning of the game so that my ships go an extra parsec or two per turn.

When making colony ships I normaly never stick with stock ships.

I just make a large fast ship, run it wherever you need to be, and upgrade to a colony ship.

You dont get as many people on the planet, but you beat the others to the punch!

The graphic of the core colony ship showing two colony pods is misleading. I was confused at first how they fit 2 pods on and still have room for engine.

In actuality, the starting colony ship only have 1 colony pod (load of 500). You can confirm by doubling clicking on the ship themselves.

Hope this clear things up.

I did the same thing to my constructors and freighters. Its much nicer to see them get to their destination in a couple turns.
