Latest Patch & Colony Ships

Anyone else notice that the other races are not building colony ships? I am perhaps 100 turns into the game and have encountered 3 other races and all of them have only 2 planets (I presume that they, like the player, start with a colony ship + homeworld) and tons of scouts but nothing else.

They certainly are building them in the game I was playing for the past few hours, which I started after getting the new patch...

They build them like nuts in my games. I play on Challenging level. I struggle to grab the worlds i want usually as they grab planets fast.

At beginner (heh, I'm still new at this game), they haven't built on on a 1.0X game. (And there are loads of open planets!!!) This makes it go from beginner to total cakewalk as all the "Major Races" are now demoted to minor status.

What setting have you got 'habitable planets' on? If its abundant then you will see loads of free planets

In my current game, AI builds them like there is no tomorrow. I had to race for weapons tech and shoot down several to colonize several good star systems.

Yeah I had something like this too. Even on normal, the Drengin usually did not start their land grab until there were only one or two planets in a larga galaxy for them to grab! The terrans were even worse in that one game, sticking around their home system, while altarians and korx colonized worlds in the neighbouring sector!

I usually do abundant habitable, common planets, common stars, loose clusters? Or something like that, but it usually means that about 2/3 of the star systems have decent planets in them. With those settings I usually have trouble grabbing even 10 colonies, on challenging, as *all* the AIs grab planets very very quickly.

Makes for a more fun game than even normal, and especially the earlier levels, I think.

They seem to be colonizing normally in the game I started post patch. I was set to normal. Maybe it's a problem with the AI below the normal setting.

At the "beginner" level they've colonized four planets on a small map... and shortly after realizing I have the rest of them told me it was time to die. Seems reasonable to me.

I started this thread. My game was on a gigantic galaxy with rare habitable planets...but there were plenty. I had about 10 planets in my empire 100 turns in. All AI races were set to Intelligent. And note that none of them had even built a colony ship, as indicated in their list of ships in the diplomacy screen.

I will start another game and see if it happens again.

I think they tweaked building speedy ships over long range,wonder if this had an effect.

Because on Begginer they start off Real slow, even on subnormal they seem to start very slow.. But thats the way its suppose to be, its hard to get anything going when your Economy has been Nerfed by 75% like it is on begginer. You want a challenge move up a little.

Game i just got finished with 5 minutes ago ( i lost to cultural victory ) the alterans (sp?) just went nuts.
The other 2 major races didnt do much though. Alterans i ended up finding out their main world was on other side of the map and they had taken nearly 60% of the planets on the map. I had 25% and that left the other 2 major races 15% between them

I have noticed that the different races seem to have different policies on expansion. I played a normal game vs the Thalan, and I got completely overwhelmed as they took every planet that was available. I then played a game vs the Drath with the same settings, and they just sat in thier corner until I built 3 culture starbases next to thier homeworld and assimilated them.

It has been mentioned a few times the the different races have different personalities. I think that it extends to more than just different racial bonuses and includes how they actually play the game.

Oh gods, the arceans. They build something like 2 colony ships a turn until they own half the damn map! This is thanks to their military bonus, but it gets even worse if they get an industry bonus square on their home world! In every game I've played pre-patch they end up dominating the map. Goodbye arceans, hello drath.

Arceans, I'm not going to play with you anymore if you keep hogging all the c26 worlds for yourself
