You know what we need? Books.

I love the epic feel of this game. You can really get in the mindset that you are taking over the universe and haggling with these alien races.

Anyway, eventually, id like to play a huge game with each one of the races. Im talking a week long extravaganva

. What would really help it along though..is more backstory on the races. Its alot easier to get immersed in a game, playing as (for example) the Drath Legion, if you had an extensive backstory to explain their motivations, their mindset, so on and so forth.

Here is to hoping that there will eventually be either a series of Gal Civ books some day, or a large encyclopedia of facts on each of the races and their history.

Awesome game Stardock. Its gonna be a classic.. heck..you may have just revitalized the TBS genre.

They did a series over at IGN hilighting the backstories of all the alien races. Perhaps that'll help out

I'm cruising right along on a Galactic Civilization II: Dread Lords fanfiction piece. I went to www.fanfiction.net and found zero fanfics written on this. That surprised me.

My sci-fi knowledgebase includes mostly Star Trek: TNG, DS9, VOY, and the movies. I loved Babylon 5, especially the last few seasons. I also think the Galactic Civ universe has amazing potential. Therefore, my fanfic is a Star Trek/Galactic Civ hybrid where the Federation exists but instead of having Klingons, Romulans, Cardassians, etc.. you have the Gal Civ races. It works like this because I'm playing the scenario out as a gigantic galaxy on very slow research against intelligent AI.

I'm looking at the story from an individual's point of view, and it's very interesting. Imagine being a person who is isolated in 23rd Century Earth, and suddenly one day the entire galaxy is open to you. Just like that. Not only is it open to you, but it's open to everyone else. All these different races you've really only imagined are suddenly within potential reach.

Then imagine a year later when they are at your doorstep. People are interacting with them. Humans are living in the same solar system with them. Families are split across sectors of the galaxy. Your son or daughter or father or mother are serving aboard the first armed space vessels. Imagine seeing footage of Earth's first space battle with another race.

I totally agree. This lends itself to epic storytelling.
