Galaxy sizes

Im a little confused as to the exact difference bettween the Galaxy sizes past large. It seems like Huge has the same number of stars/star systems as large, but theres just more space between them. Gigantic is the same, just with more space than even huge has between the star systems, but again, not really more. In gigantic theres TONES of empty space. That gets pretty annoying as it kind of defeats the purose of having more that large.
-Note: In galaxy set up I have the number of stars and the number of planets at abundant....but there not that abundant.

It's a whole different way of playing on the largest maps. Suddenly range and speed are far more important factors (Something the AI seems not to realize) your territory is vast, you need mobile fleets that can move far and fast.

Have a play with the planet settings on larger maps too, tight clusters and less stars can cause Civs to be isolated, which can be either good or bad depending on what they're isolated with. If you knock it up to common stars the galaxy will be teeming with systems.

On gigantic though, even with abundant stars and planets, there huge gaping holes empty of star systems throughout the galaxy.
-I think I've decided to only play on large from now on.

I like it that way, I play with rare stars abundant planets .... really gives the feeling of "space" on a gigantic map. And as was mentioned above it actualy gives value to range and speed which on the smaller maps mean nothing.

If you dont like lots of space play with 'scattered' rather than tight clusters it spreads the stars out evenly so you hardly even notice the space and all players regions will be joined with very little room between them.

Since maps are randomly generated you will find that at times there will be almost too many systems on a gigantic map. (you can use ctrl n to generate a new map at start) I'm playing a gigantic map now set to evenly spaced ,max star, and max planet. There is almost always 3 systems per sector with 5 planets and there is always a sector with at least one star system minimum.....that is a whole lot of planets on the map. there are over 3000 planets on the map I'm playing. I have about 40 habitable planets under my control. I'm playing with the maximum number of opponents. Military victory would just be a hassle so I'm going diplomatic. In galciv 1 the most starsystems on a map was 256 I believe so galciv2 triples the number. It's a fun diversion but I think playing a full house on a large map would be optimal. Huge and Gigantic get to be a bit unwieldly but can be fun at times.

just depends on what u like personally i think that gigantic maps with everyone in it are amazing although they can take weeks to fully complete, those aliense just dont know when the galaxy is mine...
