Custom Music?

Can we?

Hi! In another thread praising the quality of hte in-game music (which is super!) someone suggested they were going to add customer tunes to the game?

Can we use our own MP3s or WAVs in the game? How? That is, what directory do we put them in and/or where is the playlist?

I suck less at making my own music than I do at designing cool looking ships.

As I stated in the "Beautiful Music" thread, the in-game music is truly top notch.

However, I noticed in the manual that there is supposed to be an option in the "audio" section where you can select a custom music playlist. It says "enable this to play whatever music is in your music folder" but the option does not appear on screen. Do I have to place my custom music inside the default GC2 music folder for this option to show?

(I'm at work...otherwise I'd try it.)

Forget it. I've asked this question twice now and sent a query to support and have gotten no satisfactory answer. Someone said at another spot that in order for custom playlists to work you must replace the mp3s with your own but you must maintain the original mp3 names.

This is ludicrous, if true.

Stardock has not responded to my emails at all. Though I like GalCiv2, I am disappointed with the support you get and with these GOD-AWFUL forums. To say they are cumbersome and hard to navigate is like saying most oranges are orange.

Someone did respond and said they did not include it with the initial release but plan to add it later.If you go into the music folder and copt your mp3 and change the name to one of the files that are already in the game it should play your file.I don't know whether you have to rename the one you are replacing.Back up your original music folder and it was suggested that you would have to have the same parameters as the original music files such as bit rate.

Not that I'm excusing SD's having put the option in the manual but not in the game, but why not just use WinAmp or something to play music and turn off the in game music? Why is this such a big deal to you, AB?
