Collector's Edition

Collector's Edition

I know I read it but cannot find it now; what is the difference between the Collector's Edition and the normal game?

Thanks!

How does the box look like? Like the european version (see in this thread Link)?

SD, PLEASE ANSWER THIS:

Is CE content included into patch/bonus pack for everyone who have digital version and you just need to enable it by running the enabler? Or is CE content has to be downloaded separately, an only then enabled with the "enabler"? I do not see anything called "Special Edition" in my game, so I do not know if I have it or not...

I am not interesting in desktop part, only in in-game part. It is very easy question, but I still can not see the answer...

The CE bonus content needs to be downloaded at:

https://www.galciv2.com/CollectorsEdition/

Yarlen,

On the link you have provided I see only bonus pack (that is also available through SD central) and enablers. There are no CE bonus content there. Let me ask again, Is there separate download of CE which is not bonus pack and not "enabler"?

Again, I am talking about CE content, NOT bonus pack NOT "enabler ". Is there such a thing? Or is it included into bonus pack?

-Box is a special tin type material (looks very slick)

Silver colored, yes. Tin? More like cardboard that every other game.

The European version looks like it comes in an actual metal box. Was that a Limited Edition run? Or for the European version only?

I'm getting 'page not found' when I actually go to download the CE stuff. I have the retail box, but I hate to uninstall and reinstall just to get the CE stuff.

You don't just need that pack thathas the patch + the content, you need the other file on that page the 'unlocker'. https://www.galciv2.com/collectorsedition/

Btw if you aren't sure if you even want the desktop theme, don't install it. Maybe it works okay if you're familiar with and have the various windows customizers from Stardock, but I went from plain Windows XP settings to the GC II theme and was noticing missing functionality and less stability. It's possible that I may have botched the theme install since I didn't close Firefox first, the graphic settings took effect and the install finished but then everything froze up and I had to reboot.

Restarted, played GCII a bit, noticed I couldn't move its window around at will anymore and it kinda clashed with my view anyway. So, closed all programs, uninstalled the GC II desktop, crashed my computer again, and now I'm back at regular Windows XP except I have to re-sort the 100s of shortcuts on my desktop so I can find what I want again But that'll teach me for trying to install a theme like it's nothing, I was satisfied enough with how things were to begin with so I didn't want it enough to get used to it and configure it to not be screwy.

Oh but I got the CE content. Very nice components. Thanks Stardock.

i have a question about the collectors edition extra content, i had pre-orderd from play.com, but i aint really sure if they even had the collectors edition, but they emailed me yesterday saying they cancelled my ore order because they didn't know when they would get it in, and yet, it's in the shops today, but would i be able to get the extra content if i just go buy it? since i feel kind of cheated out of a possible pre order goodie

Collector's edition? #@$%! I never saw it on the shelf, and didn't dig deep enough on this site before buying to even know it existed. I would have gladly picked it up had I known. I hate getting screwed over by collector's editions coming out after I buy the "suck" editon. It seems almost every DVD I buy (and a lot of my music, damn you Nuclear Blast) does this. I would gladly pay a few extra bucks for the tech tree/content. Is there anyway to do this? I can't stand loading the game for the first time already feeling like I've lost out.

So, I'm wondering why the Bonus Pack and the CE stuff doesn't show up in SDC????

Good question. Still, I didnt have any issues downloading the content enabler from the site, after I completed the little form to have my missing serial # sent to me (uk version).

OK, according to my understanding I should have CE content enabled. But is there any way to check that it actually is enabled? I do not remember exact content of the ship components in regular version, can someone give a particular example of the ship component from CE version so that I could check and see that I did install everything correctly?

I just totally got screwed. I preordered my copy months ago from Gamestop and today I got the call that it was in. I go to pick up totally jazzed that it actually came in on birthday (turned 24 today) - and it's the regular edition.

I cancelled my order and I'm currently panicking and trying calling around to find a CE. For me it's not just content - I want the box and stuff too. This is turning out to be a really crappy birthday.

I finally got the game from Gamestop. Regular edition, yeah... But hopefully I can figure out how to get the printed tech tree. The game is more important to me than the collector box, really.

While walking through Walmart the other day, I came across this title and decided to stop and check it out. I've been an avid turn-based strategy nut for many years, but was never able to get a satisfactory title for this particular genre ... until now. The fact the it was labeled as "collectors edition" made it all the more enticing.

So, about a half hour later (20 minutes in the checkout line, and a 10 minute trip home to my PC), I had the game installed. The website, as we all know, has the location to enter the serial number for the downloads. I purchased the collectors edition, so I placed it there.

No luck.

I tried again. Still no luck.

Then I put it in the "normal" box, and saw the downloads available which seemed to be the bonus pack and the activator. I installed both in turn, but like many who posted had no idea which version was actually on my hard drive.

I sent out an email to customer service expressing my frustration and confusion, and didn't expect an answer for at least a week. Well, a short day and a half later I received the answer to the question that many have been wondering about their own copy:

Yes, I have the Collectors Edition. The bonus pack includes all the data, and the activator ... well, activates it. If both are downloaded and installed, you're good to go with no other downloads needed (excepting future patches/enhancements).

As someone new to the company, I'd like to commend them on both their wonderful game and their wonderful service. They didn't even make fun of the fact that I apparently missed the second collectors edition serial number located on a paper in the box

Keep up the good work!

They haven't put it there yet?

The second serial number? Oh, it was there on the piece of paper labeled "collectors edition serial number" ... I just failed to pay any attention to the documents that came with the game besides the tech tree and the normal serial number on the CD case, lol.

Well, you can easely check aviability of CE ship components.
Look into Shipbuilder Extras/Generic tab. If there are 14 components named "Special Structure" with description Collector's Edition component - you have CE content enabled.

P.S. Really CE content already present in all versions of game. All that do CE enabler - a very small changes in system registry that signals game to enable CE features.

Okay i'm lost here. Can somebody help me out? I was reading this thread, but for some reason nothing clicked.

I don't have the game yet. I am going to buy it off the website, the download+cd shipped version...

If I do this, I can download the game, and have it shipped to me... but will I be able to get the collectors edition content, or am I SOL? I'm hoping I can still get the stuff, or i'd be depressed. I wanna experience this game fully for all its glory, including the collectors edition goodies. I'd of gladly paid more for collectors edition, but the purchase thing didnt have any collectors edition version with those goodies.

Help me please, before I purchase!

EDIT: I answered my own question after I bought the game. I do have all the collectors edition content. WOOT!

i have tried the serial number that came with my Collectors Edition....I get error invalid serial number
I have tried the number sent to me in an mail.....same thing, Invalid serial number.

Ok, I went out tonight to find the game, after reading all of the great reviews. (Plus I had enjoyed the heck out of GC 1!)

Anyway, Circuit City had one copy, so I bought it, not knowing there were any other editions out there. Then I ended up at Walmart looking for the Harry Potter DVD, and lo and behold, they had 3 copies of Galactic Civ 2 Collector's Edition, and the price was the same as the "regular" version I had just bought at CC.

I have read the several of the threads here, and I guess I need to know if the Collector's Edition is worth the hassle of going back to CC to get my money back, and then going back to Walmart to pick up the CE? Thanks!!
