Coups, and leader heads

uh, I was reading over the most recent game example, and I realized something
-When the torians had a "Darastic change in ethical philosophy occred", the leader head didn't change. If i remeber I read something earlier that when a "darastic change in ethical philosophy occured" that meant a coup has occured and the government has been replaced with a radically different one. I don't know about you, but I think if a coup occured, they wouln't keep that same guy in head of the government. Doesn't this seem pretty lame to anyone else.

How would I know if the Humans have a new leader. They all look the same to me.

Is the head you see that of the leader, or that of the Ambassador to your race from that species? It's less inconceivable that an Ambassador/Emissary might be the same after a coup d'etat.

I understand the posters point, but it is something that probably droped stardocks mind. Must say that when a moral
shift happens would be cool to see a Evil Altarian, or a Good Yor animation in the diplomancy screen.

yeah i see it as something to be adressed in an upcoming patch, as it would really add alot to the game.

It could actually add a whole lot of depth to the game, if they concentrated on it in an update someday. If there were good and evil versions of each racial portrait (and players would probably have to do the same for custom races too) then why not carry on the idea to it's logical conclusion: ship style, colour scheme, everything changing to reflect the new moral position of the government. Hell, they could even throw in a few random events associated with the revolution... emigres flooding neighbouring planets, and the government of those neighbours has to choose whether to harbour the emigres and risk pissing off the new revolutionary government next door, or if they should make friendly with them by sending the refugees home in chains.

seems needless to me, personally. I just dont mind if the leader looks the same after a coup.. at some point in a game you have to suspend your disbeleif and knock the rust off of the ol' imagination.

Id rather they updated the game with more ship parts, better AI, and features that improve the strategic aspects of the game.

I dunno, I think between the bleached blond hair, the earrings, the tattoos, the funky lighting, and the weird shoulder mantle thing, the Altarian fellow is *already* kind of paradoxically evil-looking.

Seriously though, I had imagined it a bit like Ash did, myself... you're talking to the Ambassador of each race, not necessarily the leader.

Bingjack has a possible point as well... who can tell the difference between one alien individual and another?

(I'm somehow reminded of another game I've played where the running gag was that the aliens thought all humans looked like Jerry Lewis.)

It would actually seem really wierd to me if they suddenly changed! I am sure that it would take a fair amount of time for a species to evolve into an "evil" version. If they just upped and evolved when they changed government, I would find that much more unrealistic.

Also, all that is gold does not glitter. An Evil looking race that acts nicely just points out human conception of what evil and good look like! As Bingjack said, there's also the "They All Look The Same To Me" factor too!

As long as the civs that hate me do some serious frowning (as applicable to their biological capacity) I am content that an overthrown government maintains the established ambassador.

Well as to say a coup or change in governent does occur it could be by a former minority offshot of the original race that has evolved over time and became the majority race. So they wouldnt suddenly evolve into evil/good creatures, just the new leaders would be evil/good.

Well i think its fine to judge what evil looks like dark, vicious, dangerous, schemeing animations. Good bright, friendly, non-threating animations. We firstly are applying human morals in situations that occur in the game, why not apply the image of whats good or evil?
