Morale

Help to understand

Hello,

I've been playing GalCiv for a little while, and in the first installment, I always had problems with morale. The only way I could find to keep it somewhat high, was to build colony ships, and then destroy them because there was no planet to colonize anymore.

So, in GalCiv2, is this the only way to deal with morale again? I hope not... and I probably never did the correct strategy for GalCiv1 either...


Can anyone help by telling me morale strategies, so that I can finaly enjoy GalCiv2 when it's out, without being ... somewhat stupid with morale issues?

In Galciv 2 overpopulation is not a problem unless you build too many farms. If you build only one or no farms at all on your planets (they aren't neccessary unless you specifically want more people than the planets hold naturally), you will generally have no problems at all if you simply build one morale improvement per planet and take a +morale political party or race pick.

At full tech, and all morale trade goods, and maybe a few morale resources, I can have my tax rate at 89% and 100% approval for populations of around 15000

The way morale works, you get a morale hit when tax rate reaches 50%, again if it reaches 75%, and again if it reaches 90%. There may be a hit at 25% as well, but I don't remember.

But there is no real reason to stay at 100% approval.

60% approval would be just as good.

Its much more toned down, morale wise. In beta I found it hard to control large populations or keep them happy. Not so anymore.

Researching 'morale' techs will keep your peeps under control and so will stock markets. Well not primarily, but they give a small bonus. Plus you may get lucky and have an approval bonus tile. Morale resources, like any resources really, jump on them and claim them for your use.
