Zoomable technology tree?

A small UI enhancement idea...

Would it be possible to implement a zoom feature for the technology tree in research screen? That would be helpful to get the "bigger picture" on whats going on.

It woudl be nice, but I don't think it would be very easy to read.

You could try playing at a higher resolution.  If you run at 1600x1200 (for instance) it's not really an issue.

Yeah, I know that higher resolution would help, that idea just came into my mind when cursing at my old 17" crt. Perhaps I have postponed buying of new monitor for enough time now

Actually, it would still be nice. Zoom out, pick the general area that you are interested in, zoom in.

Having a way to scroll the tech area other than dragging it would also be nice, as scrolling that way limits you to the height of the viewport, so I have to let go, scroll back to the top, grab again, etc.

Ja. Rly. This is a good idea. Doesn't even need to be infinitely zoomable; just zoom out, navigate to area of interest (usefully color coded), zoom in for detail. Two zoom settings. Buying new hardware shouldn't be a requirement...

I would go with that. I find my self switching to 'big picture' as I get lost, but then as this doesnt show the text and details swicthing back. Hard to explain but something could help here.

I'm always trying to zoom out via the mouse wheel 'cuz thats what I'm used too.

Or at least make the tree nodes smaller. It's hard to scroll around and find what you are looking for. It would be good too to wrap the mouse cursor so you don't have to keep doing the click-drag-let go-move-click-drag dance.
