CTD upon start up - every time

I ctd on start up every time - no exceptions.

My specs are:
AMD Athlon XP 3000+
512 MB of Ram
Radeon 9600 w/driver 6.14.10.6476 (has 128 MB of memory on board, AGP naturally)
SATA HD

Do you have DirectX 9.0c? If you have any previous versions, the game will simply not run. Not sure if they added a message to that effect in the late builds, but in the initial build it would simply die with a generic error message immediately upon trying to run the program.

Yeah, but I found out what the problem was:

Apparently, you NEED to have sp2 installed on your machine. I did not see this anywhere (although it was probably stated very explicitly - like everyone else, I am blind to signs ) So, yeah - seems to at least be starting up now. Sorry about the lame extra post.

I have two computers, one Desktop and one laptop, both run the latest WinXP patches, and DirectX 9.0c. On both of them I get CTD when pressing the "Next" button on the Chooes Opponents page.
Found out that the error is that I did not download the multimedia!!!
But where do I send debug.err files in the future?

The part about SP2 needing to be installed hasn't been a problem for me. I've been running without it for some time now and GC2 seems to be running ok, so far anyway.

Well, The Second I installed it, it ran. So, there is a definite link - it may be specific to my system, but there IS a definite link there.

I also do NOT have SP2 on my PC and the GC2 runs for me...

crash to desktop

windows xp is a little more stable than older versions so when a program dies it crashes back to the desktop

in windows 3.1 it used to be CTD (crash to DOS)
windows 95 & 98 it was SNR-- screwed need rebuild
Windows NT BSOD -- Blue screen of death
and now windows xp has completed the cycle with CTD again--crash to desktop

I expect others have their own amusing terms describing operating system issues

Make sure you have DirectX 9.0c (sometimes called 9c by people). Make sure you have the LATEST drivers for your video card. Especially if you have buttons flickering on set up screens.

I had the CTD on new game generation (hitting the next button on the alien selection screen). Pulling down the latest drivers for my video card fixed that. Mind you, all my other DirectX 9.0c games have all ran fine, and I had recent drivers (just a couple of months old) on my machine when I was experiencing CTD. GC2 is making use of some very new DX 9c features.

Yeah, i have all of the updates - I updated to 9c like the day it came out (or right after) - I was using the machine for some development at the time.

And, I am pretty sure I have the newest drivers, unless they updated some time in the last couple of weeks.

Just checked and I do in fact have the most recent ATI update for my radeon card.

I'm not - it stopped once I upgraded to service pack 2.
