Question about modifying races....

Okay, I've managed to modify a race and I am wondering why the values aren't showing up in game. I opened the RaceConfig file in notepad, then modified ability scores for a particular race. You know, like adding 50 to Luck, 10 to Trade Routes,etc. Trying to make a super-race. I saved the RaceConfig file in my mods folder, then started a new game: but the values for the modified ability scores aren't showing up in game.

I can see the new values on the "Choose Your Civilization" screen. But then, when I click "Next" and go to the next screen, the values disappear. (The next screen is the "Customize Your Civilization" screen.) And when I get past that to the actual game, and check the Civilization Manager - Stats and Graphs screen (which is where abilities are displayed) the modified abilities aren't there.

What am I doing wrong?

(Yes, I re-opened the config file in notepad to confirm that the new values are still in the ability scores.)

(Yes, I started a new game with a different race, then quit and re-started with my modified race and still no joy.)

Nevermind, I figured it out after wading thru years of prior posts.

Apparently, for each race created, the game automatically creates an XML file that is very similar to the RaceConfig.xml files used in the game's DATA file folders. These files are called "<whatever you used as a Display Name>" and have a RACECONFIG file type and are stored in Documents/My Games/GalCiv2. The same place that the saved games are stored. This is not located in any of the game's files, it is in separate from that. Which is why it took so long for me to find it.

Apparently the game uses the whatever.RACECONFIG file type by default and does not bother to look at RaceConfig.xml files that you create for mods if a whatever.RACECONFIG file type document exists. In order to get the game to look at the RaceConfig.xml file, you must delete the whatever.RACECONFIG file from the GalCiv2 folder in Documents/My Games. (I didn't delete them, just moved them to a different folder.)

(Sorry for such a detailed response, but I saw a lot of questions similar to this as I waded thru the past two yrs of posts. Hopefully this response will help someone.)

Exactly... and for modders who tend to create Total-Conversions while trying to maintain gameplay balance issues under a tight grasp, having these highly variable races files for different context(s) just by copy/paste from development folders is absolutely essential!

Besides, any of these do show up in the Opponents selection screen also.

I've played games with 8 kind of Korx (slightly adjusted, btw), just for fun.
