Destroyed Empires Coming Back?

Is it possible for a destroyed race to come back, through some sort of event?

I've never seen nor heard about it. It would seem very wrong if it could happen when you have the military victory enabled, but it could make non-war wins interesting in very long games.

Your question makes me wonder if you played a long enough game, could you see the Fundamentalist event, see them lose all their worlds, and much later see them reappear?

I've heard of Dread Lords appearing more than once, but that's about it. Although I *did* gain intel levels on a minor civ that died before I removed the passive spies.

Advanced level intel: Yup, still dead.
