I wonder if anyone else takes the approach to designing races that i do , which is to draw on other sources and try to replicate them with the Gal Civ 2 engine. The MOO 2 races are one source. Another that i did was the Prador from Neal Ashers excellent Polity novels.
With the prador i took the following approach.
They are an effectively violently aggressive Insect race that enjoy eating the flesh of sentient races. They are renowned for the toughness of their ships. They have a clan based structure and their children are the slaves of their parents, who control them with pheremones. They control other sentient race slaves with mind control devices surgicaly implanted.
So Tech tree- Drengin was most appropriate i felt, as it encompasses the slave technologies which is an important dimension to them.
Super Ability - Hiver , to reflect their insect racials
Bonus abilities (cant remember the exact points mix)
+ Defence (their ships are very strong)
+ Loyalty (mind control over their slaves)
+ Soldiering (they are BIG bugs)
+ Population (they lay LOTS of eggs)
Alignment - well like, really evil, and aggressive.
