Too much money??

Ive been playing on an immense map as the krynn for awhile now, and getting near 500 turns i have by far the biggest treasury. The only problem is that i just dont have any idea how to efficiently put it to good use. Ive already got my industry as 100 and ive put around 300 bc in espionage, but after that im just not sure what to do. And ive only had the game for a few weeks, so there are still a few aspects im still getting used to.

Any help would be great

Save it for a rainy day...?

A lot of cash comes in handy if war is declared on you. It's great to be able to buy top of the line ships with just the right weapons and defense.

You could also gift some of it to other civs to get better relations, or use it to buy techs or trade goods.

Amazingly enough, you can sometimes simply buy underpopulated colony worlds from the other races for 1-4 k.Develop their population, and start flipping worlds across the map from you - {G}.

This is particularly nasty when someone has not yet researched the Plague Cure and is droppping population like it's going out of style - assuming of course you *have* researched plague cure - {G}.

When your treasury hits 20000bc you lose a portion of your income. You should really try to keep it below that. It can be hard, especially when you bring in more than that per week.

I don't know how much you consider too much, or what stage of the game you are in, but places where you can spend down your treasury is buying those planets that Jonnan just said, or just rush building on your planets. A quantum power plant will boost your production and take about 5000 bc to build. Or rush build some ships.

What I do is colonize those PQ1's and then buy a stock exchange or manufacturing center every turn.

What I'd recommend is maximize your Espionage, rush-finish projects i.e. rush-buy things that cost under 200bc, and build Economic starbases. Rush-buying gets more inefficient as you buy more expensive projects. In future games one good way is to choose Evil and build the Artificial Slave Center. You might be able to seek out and maximize any purple mining starbases on the board as well--that should divert some of your income to research, at a very good rate. Also, field a strong military. You have to pay maintenance on the ships, and a number of good benefits come from that--namely, it makes losing the game far more unlikely.

To be a heretic as I always am........

How can you have to much cash? Honestly! There are times when I'd love to have more cash!

But to be helpful..........

Rush-Buy a bunch of Warships and have them patrol your slice of space for whenever it would be necessary.

Like to launch an invasion on someone. That spends the cash.

Bribe others into wars. And if you're really bored, bribe the others to make peace.

It's fun to run galactic politics from backstage.

You can also buy loads of tech from other civilizations.

Or do a massive upgrade of your fleets, tends to be quite costly so when you have plenty of cash it's the right time - just make sure your income is sufficient to bear the increased fleet maintenance costs.

Depending on what type of victory you're pursuing, you could also convert some econ buildings to factories or labs to improve production or research.
