I don't claim this will dramatically transform your gameplay, but--surprised I didn't think of this sooner:

You can Rename your colonies to reflect the ethical bonuses you got on them.  So...if you get a 49% Starship bonus ethical event and you choose evil, you can rename your planet from Alcor III to "Alcor III SS49".  Similarly, if you get 27% Production or Research bonus, you can rename it "Alcor III 27pro" or "Alcor III 27Res".    Now you can better take advantage of the bonuses, because you can see them just by looking at the planets on the map or in the slider.  Those starship bonuses, in particular, can be substantial--and VERY easy to forget they're there.

I've only recently started doing this as well.  I've also been renaming any planets with capitals on them so I don't lose them.     If I find a planet with an AI capital I'll rename that too.

The only other renaming of planets I do is when I get to the PQ1 conony "not-so-rush"  I add a "PQ!" before the planet's name so that I can find them all and do some quck builds on them, to get the up to par with all the other planets I have.

Anyway thansk for the great tip, I'm sure many people will start using it now.

Something like the PQ1 thing I could imagine putting pq1 at the start of the name, so that when you sort the planet slider by Name they all come together.   I'm sure this won't resonate with some people who don't like the idea of all their planets looking more like software variable names.

If you click on the button on the left to bring up the planet/ship list you can sort your planets based on several different attributes including PQ/class.

What I hate about that sorting button is that it's a cyclical button, instead of a drop-down slider box.  There are too many options to choose from.  I wish it would just drop down and you could choose it instead of having to cycle through them all.

More importantly, once you get orbital terriformers or declare neutral, all of those pq1's are no longer pq1. What I usually do is not quite fill the planet when I set up their queue, then look through the colony list in the civ manager for numbers like 10 (1). An empty tile means I have thigns to build there.

I've been doing the renaming for a while, but usually only for ship or research bonuses.

Is it just me, or did they pull the pq1's out of TA? I don't believe I've seen anything below a 4 recently.

Yep.  No more PQ1's.  Were they there, I would still like the name PQ1, though, because that keeps all the planets sorted together the ones that were formerly PQ1 but terraformed.  They need their own governor/build order.

I'm currently playing the TA campaign and I've seen a PQ3.

Simple genius!
I always named planets crazy names for fun.
Now I can name them something useful.

Sorry for being offtopic, but for what the starshipbonus is actually good for? is my theorie about upgrading offense and defense right so far? It doesn't seem to affect either the hp or the productionspeed and I haven't find something about it until now.

"Starship bonus" is an increase in attack.

That sounds about right. Five games as a custom civ. Hopefully if that's wrong someone who knows better will straighten us out.

It's wrong.

Your race medal (different from racial medal, which you get for playing all of the DL races) is the race that you have played the most games with-but for some reason while DA games have never counted towards this, TA games do.  So total the MV games you've played in DL and TA and whichever one is the most, that's your race medal.

If somehow DA games finally count then someone can correct -me-.

No.  Just submit more MV games (DL & TA) as a custom race than you have as any other single stock race.

The racial medal is a completely different medal.

Were Yoda and Golem like biological siblings at one time, separated at birth?

Hello

No, because Golem was a hobbit and is evil.

Yoda is a Jedi Master and is good.

Also two different movies now, if they were ever in the same movie?

Oh boy, who would be the father?

Back to planet renaming....I actually have a lot of fun with this. Originally I renamed all of my planets after different countries and tried to tie the nature of the planet to the country name I selected, i.e., a good production planet would be called Germany and a high PQ planet would become China or India. I got bored of countries and then renamed planets after cities, then in additional games I cycled through companies, fish, and universities. This was fun, but didn't really do what Tetleytea was driving at which was use the naming feature to identify what a planet is good at. Here is what I do now:

If the planet is meant to be an industrial planet I name it after a mineral, i.e. gypsum, talc, flint, shale, etc. If the planet has production bonuses or a manufacturing capital I name it after a jewel, say diamond, emerald, ruby, etc.

If the planet is meant to be an economic planet, I name it after a big bank (although there are fewer of them now!) like Barclay's, Wells Fargo, etc.

If the planet is meant to be a research planet I name them after famous philoshpers, i.e., Aristotle, Descartes etc.

If the planet is just a general planet I name it after a flower, i.e., lily, lotus, etc (don't laugh or my Wyvern dreadnoughts will annihilate your universe).

Finally, getting to Tetleytea's point of putting a specific bonus in the title, that is easy. Here is what I do. If the planet came with a research bonus, +10% from a ring and +28% from an evil option, then I simply call the planet Aristotle 38. That let's me know right away what type of improvement strategy to follow on the planet and what bonus I have there.

I highly recommend this approach. It makes information management fun and easy, and I continually change things up to keep it all interesting. If I get tired of using flowers maybe next game I'll substitute yummy desserts or something.

Anyway, my approach is to divide the planets into research, industry, economic, and general categories and then diffferentiate them by naming all planets of that class after a specific class of objects. Bonuses are noted by simply inserting a number after the planet name.

Give it a whirl, I think you will find it helps.

I've seen this in another post, but it was a while back in "forum" time.

However.........

Thanks for keeping the forum Noobies/Newbies/However-The-Hell-You-Spell-It   up to date with useful information.

(I think I'll stick to calling them "Novices/Apprentices", do it the Yoda way)

I think my foot just exploded.

It seems it did.

So I'll go tend to that.

Until I become more atomically stable......

Roll, roll, roll, your joint,

Twist it at the end,

Light it up, and take a puff,

Then pass it to a friend.

(Song me and my friends made)
