Author's Notes:
- I'm using a Macbook Pro with Windows XP bootcamped to play Galactic Civ 2. Is there a way to take screenshots? There is not a printscreen button on the Mac keyboard.
- I tried to describe the galaxy I'm playing in and I did a poor job of it. The galaxy is divided into 3 quadrants by a series of star clusters that form a capital T, the top of which is the clusters dividing the galaxy in two mentioned in the last post. In the left crook of the T is a large cluster of stars, occupied by one major race, mine. There are two clusters above the T and a couple of small ones also in the left crook of the T. Hope that makes sense. Now back to our original programming.
The first few months of 2227 saw the Yor complete several prototype space ships, 2 Colony ships and a Flagship for exploration. They quickly colonized another planet in their system and began exploring and expanding throughout their star cluster while researching ways to make their economy more efficient, ending with the development of an economic forum that could be used to link the economies of all of their planets. After encountering several races without hyperdrive, the Yor turned to studying how they could usefully communicate with new organics that they had met. Turns out not everyone could speak Iconian. As it turned out, a new set of diplomatic programs were published by Intercollective Communications on the very same day that the Yor would meet someone who would change their destiny.
Priority 10, Listening Post 22, Embor System to Intercollective Communications to Overmind Collective, Unit N1
Unit S48948-1109-21 report: Tracking unidentified spacecraft. Unarmed, likely no threat level. Communication link established, translation programs have deciphered language. Recommend forwarding to N1 for first contact.
N1 seperated itself from a charging stalk despite being only halfway through its defragementing and charging cycle and found a vidcom. A human face appeared onscreen. "I am Tikun of the Altarian Resistance. We are pleased to meet the Yor," he said. "I will transfer you now to our beautiful Queen Eleys Mue."
A woman appeared onscreen, her short, brown hair waving gently in the breeze of the artificial air processors. "Eleys Mue?" asked N1. "So they say!" she said, laughing gently. "I've heard from the Terrans about your ethereal sense of self; thought I'd get us off on the right foot... do you have one of those currently?" Her blue eyes sparkled as she tucked her hair behind her ear.
N1 paused for a moment. "Are you flirting with me, Queen Mue?" This was met with more light laughter. "As we say on Altaria, may a cuddle be your guide," responded the Queen playfully. N1 paused again and betrayed his synthetic underpinnings: "Insufficient context for processing your last communication." Even the new programs hadn't anticipated such a handful. "I can explain... if you'd like to get together sometime," said the young Queen. "I've heard your reputation for hating organics. Perhaps we can change your mind."
Somewhat recovering, N1 asked, "You want to travel and meet physically?"
"Yes, I'd very much like that," said the Queen. "Very well, let us meet then." N1 transmitted co-ordinates where the flagships could meet, sent its report to the Overmind Collective and the newly formed Organic Studies Collective for immediate analysis, and returned to its charging stalk, reprogamming itself as it walked.
