Hello! My name is Slaughter and I'm new to Galactic Civilizations 2! I love this game, I really needed some 4X action again, just like in the old times!
One of the few things I didn't like in Galactic Civilizations 2 were the governaments. Lemme see... four options. And that's that. BO-RING. I wish to regulate my economy, governament and the values of my faction!
And that's where my idea comes in!
Remember how Alpha Centauri had Social Engineering?
That's kinda what I'm proposing.
I don't have a cool name for this mechanic, but I do know how it can be used. Here it goes:
Governament:
Governament, as in, who rules the faction and how.
Governaments can vary: Galactic Federation, Democracy, Fundamentalism, Space Empire, Police State, Caste System, Military Rule, Technocracy, Hive Mind... that kind of thing. Some governaments are more liberal, free and efficient, while others are better for battle, morale or control. No governament is better than the other. Each governament is useful in each situation and combination with the proper faction.
Economy:
Economy, as in, how your faction deals with economical matters.
Economy can vary, too. You can have pure Laissez-faire capitalism in one side, or a state economy communist-like economy in other with many varied kinds of economy between, too.
Alien Affairs:
How your faction interacts with aliens and the relations between both cultures.
Pretty varied, too. You can use Anihilation policies and straight out kill any goddamn alliens you come across. A good alien is a dead alien. Or you can fully integrate them into your society and culture. Or enslave them into serving you. Or keep them there, but as second-rate citizens viewed with distrust. Or keep both you and the aliens in your worlds isolated to prevent "contamination" by the alliens.
War Stance:
How your faction deal with war and it's consequences.
You can assume many stances towards war. You can be a pacifist, or a straight-out galactic conqueror who will stop for nothing until all aliens in the galaxy are dead and at his feet. And many other things, too.
Values:
What your society considers important.
Some want to obtain Weath and Material Riches. Others desire for Power and Control. Yet, there are others who only desire for Knowlodge, many who only desire to help their faction and many others desire to be closer with their god(s). These things affect your society's mindset towards many things.
Morals:
The way your society sees the world.
Some people see the world as a matter of black and white. Others believe it's all relative. Yet, there are many other positions, too. And each one affects your people in diferent ways.
All those things shape your society and how they act. Each choice has advantages and disadvantages, and many are interconected with your race and who they are. One thing is sure: Your choices aren't going to make everyone happy. Other factions are bound to either dislike your policies, apreciate your people or fully hate you with the ergy of a star going supernova.
This needs expansion, but I'm going to bed right now. Your feedback is always good! What you think?
